â Breathless (1960) Patricia: Why are you so sad? Michel: Because I am.
gwendolyngreengrass:
Gwendolyn watched as the liquid disappeared without the command of a vocal spell. âI think you just wanted an excuse to show off that little trick.â She shrugged with a small smirk and took a sip of her own drink. âI guess weâll never know now if it was poisoned or not. Shame.â

âIf I was going to show off, I would pick something a lot more advanced, Miss. Greengrass,â he said with a small smile. âSuch a shame,â he agreed, although the sarcasm was clear in his voice. âWould you really try to poison me, Gwendolyn?â
"Mmmmm... I don't think you would. I think you would pick the thing that requires the least amount of effort but yields the most impressed reaction. Showing off with as little effort required as it were." She watched as his lips quirked upwards in a smile. There was a sort of thrill to this banter. Kind of like looking a wolf in the teeth. Gwendolyn's eyes narrowed slightly at his question and she pointed at Rodolphus.
"Hold on that's cheating. The entire point of you drinking it was figuring out whether or not I would. I'm not just going to tell you." Gwendolyn looked Rodolphus in the eye.Â
"You have to live with that suspense forever. Get used to disappointment Rodolphus."
She waived the bartender over for another drink.

âDid you enjoy Romania, at least?â Winter asked, though making small talk almost seemed worse than talking about the elephant in the room.
Winter had never had any ill feelings towards Gwen. They were the same age and being that the other witch was Gavinâs sister, Winter felt protective of her from the time she transferred to Hogwarts. Of course, it wasnât a secret that Gwendolyn had disliked her, to say the least. However, death changed things. They had both loved Gavin, that wasnât arguable, but for Winter, the girl across from her was an extension of him. They shared blood.Â
âQuit smoking?â Winter raised an eyebrow. âI didnât think Iâd see that day come around. Iâm honestly shocked that I am not already back at my lab brewing a hair growing potion.â She teased.
âCongratulations. Does that mean youâll be spending more time in England, then?â Part of her hoped not, for the girlâs sake, but the other part of her hoped it did, so she could be around the girl a bit more.
Something darkened in Winter at Gwendolynâs words. Garrison was already up to sacrifice another child to the cause. A cause that was the result of a delusional man and his mindless followers that would do anything to prove they were better than everyone else. Had it not been for Gavinâs death, Winter wouldnât have gone anywhere near the war. âIs that so?â She asked tightly, âAnd what is it you want?â
Romania. She could talk about the country for ages.
âI loved it. We should go together sometime, I want to show you the cathedrals there and the dragons. The country, itâs⊠unparalleled. Behind only Germany of course.â
And that was the truth - Germany would always be home for her. Gwendolyn shrugged at the mention of her giving up smoking. It was probably this easy for her to accept the claim because she cheated. A lot. Her roguish grin only deepened when Winter commented on her hair not being burnt off yet.Â
âThe night is still young Ms. Travers. If youâre lucky it may still come to that.â
Gwen was teasing of course, but it was often hard to tell with her. That was the problem with Gwendolyn. Her humor was always of the dark variety and so it was difficult to tell when exactly it was jest and when exactly it was truth.
The young witch stopped stirring her tea at the mention of staying in England. She sighed and let her shoulders droop a little. âYeah. I suppose so.â And then she stopped moving entirely when Winter asked her about what she wanted. Her body grew still like a lake.
What did she want? Nothing that she could get away with and still have her father consider her to be part of the family. Nothing that she could get away with and keep what little was left of her family safe. Gwendolyn knew very clearly what side of the fence she fell on, but she also clearly understood the importance of not saying that shit out loud. She was also incredibly aware of which side of the fence Winter fell on. With an unexpected burst of energy Gwendolyn managed to paint on a false smile. She knew Winter would see right through it, but that wasnât the point.
âMe? Oh, you know. I just want to follow in Gavinâs footsteps.â
It was a lie. Of course. But for all of its falsehood there, there was perhaps a bit of truth in the fact that Gwendolyn had a deathwish. She was more than likely to end up like her brother sooner than later.
gwendolyngreengrass:
âThatâs taking all the fun out of it if I tell you right out Rodolphus.â Gwendolyn pushed the glass closer to him.

He waved his hand, using wandless magic to evaporate the liquid. It was an easy enough spell but she wouldnât know that.
âNo thank you.â
Gwendolyn watched as the liquid disappeared without the command of a vocal spell. "I think you just wanted an excuse to show off that little trick." She shrugged with a small smirk and took a sip of her own drink. "I guess we'll never know now if it was poisoned or not. Shame."
âThat sounds doable.â
ââAre you trying to poison me?â
"That's taking all the fun out of it if I tell you right out Rodolphus." Gwendolyn pushed the glass closer to him.
Homecoming
gwendolyngreengrass:
Evan was just the kind of guy Garrison would want Gwendolyn to end up with and thatâs probably where her intense dislike for the Rosier came from. Evan checked all the major boxes all young wizards were required to fill these days: Pureblooded, well-employed, clean record. He was even the kind of man you could pick out in a crowd and say âthere - that man has a conservative view on the wizarding worldâ and actually be right about it. For Gwendolyn the combination of all of those things (pureblooded, well-employed, clean record, conservative) amounted to âfucking psychoticâ and there were definitely days where she wondered if Evanâs persona was a thin veil.Â
And yet, during her time Romania, Gwendolyn found herself looking forward to the memos she received from Evan from across the sea. But it was just two years of⊠that. It had gotten to the point where Gwendolyn could recognize the slim letters of Evanâs penmanship in a heartbeat. Hell. She even knew for a fact she could forage his handwriting if the situation called for it. But Gwendolyn was convinced it was a fascination with the man and nothing more. Sheâd always been addicted to danger after all. Evan was just another brand. Running with the wolves - itâs what she did.
She rolled her eyes at his insistence that they were friends (Yeah right in what world Rosier? In what fucking world?)Â and pulled back her arms when he touched her scars. Theyâd hurt like a motherfucker when they were fresh, but Gwendolyn was rather proud of them. Besides, if that pain meant that sheâd proven her mettle, it was worth it. It was so so so worth if it meant she got to keep working with dragons.
Her lips formed a thin smile when he asserted that she had nothing planned for the evening. Gwendolyn made sure to heap on an ample amount of smugness when she said âFor your information, I actually do have plans tonight.â
For the record - Gwendolyn actually did. Not with anyone else - but she would withhold those details from Evan for as long as possible. There was meteor shower tonight and Gwendolyn was determined to catch it. In her eyes, her evening was booked. Keeping Evan in the dark about what she was doing though was just an added bonus.
Gwendolyn leaned forward to tap him on the nose.
âHör auf zu handeln, wie du mich besser kennst als du.â
She leaned back in her seat and settled in.
âI have a date.â
A date with the stars. But in no scenario did she owe Evan the whole truth. He didnât know her and he never would.
Gwendolyn had been one of the few names he had heard slip from his fathers lips as Evanâs future was discussed. One of the available and suitable pureblood women among their circles. Though his father wasnât quite thrilled with the idea of a woman that worked, his ideals of women in society were even further dated. Evan couldnât help but wonder in another world if they could have been forced to marry, though taking that line of though would mean someone could force Gwen to do anything which Evan had already accepted as an impossibility. She was attractive, far more than average. She was intelligent, also, far more than average. She didnât seem phased by societyâs view on what she should or shouldnât be, which he would never tell her, was one of the reasons he truly respected the younger woman.
Evan had an innocent fascination with Gwen, mainly because she didnât quite fit what he expected. And even after knowing her every time he felt he got close to understanding her there was more. He didnât need to write to her as often as he had when she was in Romania, and looking back now he wasnât quite certain why he did. In the moment it felt important or required.Â
He allowed his hand to fall back tot he arm of the chair when she pulled her arm backwards. Normal people see their scars as detriments. They see the permanent mark as ugly and as something to be conscious about, she was proud of such a mark. Yet another player to her that Evan didnât fully understand.
He grinned lightly at the German rolling from her tongue and quickly responded âDu hasst, wie sehr ich dich kenne. Ich wette, dass es Sie verrĂŒckt machtâ.Â
He nodded in response though he wasnât sure if he believed her. Lying was second nature to Evan, and he was certain it wasnât all that difficult for Gwen either. âYou spent months away from here. Iâd like to see you tonight, but if you truly do have plans I suppose I will guilt you to get a drink with me another timeâ. His eyes stayed with hers, nearly locked into her eyes without intending to be. âWelcome back Gwendolynâ he said before pushing the  chair backward and standing up and taking a few steps towards the hallway. âPut my chair back at my desk when you get a chanceâ.
âDu wurdest vermisstâ he spoke without looking backwards, continuing down the hallway.
This was clockwork between them. The world turned, the sun rose in the east and set in the west, and Evan and Gwendolynâs banter would rotate around each other in a similar manner.Â
She watched him carefully and silently as he expressed a genuine want to see her. Gwendolyn had the fleeting thought of perhaps inviting him out to see the meteor shower with her. Was he into that kind of thing? Did Evan even find such things interesting? Almost immediately Gwendolyn smothered the thought. She hadnât watched a meteor shower with anyone since -Â
Du wurdest vermisst.
You were missed.Â
Gwendolyn stalled for only for a fraction of a second.Â
âYeah, well that makes one of us!â She called out after him, louder than necessary. She heard a disgruntled sound from the cubicle next to hers and she was sure she would be at the receiving end of at least one talk about office composure. She could give less of a damn. Instead, she focused Evanâs retreating figure. She was always so insistent on getting him the fuck out of her face that it wasnât till the second he was gone that she realized she was already looking for ways to reel him back in.Â
âAlso Iâm keeping this chair forever!âÂ
Whatever. This was just routine. Theyâd be lying if they said Evan didnât do just as much to rile her up. Fairâs fair. Despite her time in Romania it looked like some things didnât change. There was a war outside their doors and death was on their doorstep, but Gwendolyn supposed she was a little thankful to be back.
She picked up her wand and made sure to set a piece of parchment on Evanâs desk on fire before going back to her work. Â

â
âI have little to say about Gwendolyn because I hardly know her. From what Iâve gathered, she hides herself behind mind games and riddles. It gets a bit boring at times. She doesnât openly stand against or for anything; she just meanders through the middle. It seems like sheâs rather good at the disappearing act; maybe she was grieving, I canât really tell. As of now, sheâs of little interest to meâÂ
