“You really think that of me?” he asked her quietly. Rhetorically. “That I’d ever think that of you or change my opinion of you because of what’s happened?” he shook his head slightly as though signalling that he wouldn’t. “You could never be hideous to me. You’re the most beautiful girl in this school and nothing is going to change that” he told her honestly. “I can never understand how you feel right now, I haven’t been there” he shook his head once more. “But you got through it, you’re here, fighting it and that is what any scars will show. That you’re strong and brave and a fighter. And if you think that makes you any less beautiful to me then you’re wrong” he bit his lower lip wondering if his honesty was wise. He was still a half blood after all and Gabrielle was all about pleasing her family. His confession of his attraction to her might just make her feel worse. “I’m nice because I like you” he smiled slightly as she finally turned to look at him slightly, his expression unwavering at his first glimpse of her scars. He looked at her exactly as he had looked at her at the ball the last time he had seen her. When he had danced with her and felt like the luckiest guy in school. “You didn’t put me in danger and I can handle a few gossips. Plus all they’re saying is that I slept with you and that’s not exactly bad for my reputation” he teased softly. “Half the guys in Hogwarts are now insanely jealous of me, even if I am a half blood” he joked.
His words only made her cry harder, she hadn’t meant to insult him, she just thought so little of herself, especially then, that she couldn’t expect him to think anything of her any longer. She didn’t even know why he’d thought anything of her before. “I’m sorry,” She cried, “I don’t deserve you to be so nice to me.” And she truly believed that. Slowly, she shook her head, “I’m not a fighter,” Gabrielle confessed, she hadn’t stayed strong, she’d screamed and cried and struggled, she’d bled and burned. “Had I not upset him earlier, he would have attacked you, not me, just because he thought something was going on. And I can’t imagine if you’d-if he’d-if something happened to you because of me. I don’t want you to be hurt because of me. You’re so nice and you made me feel special for once, like a fairytale.” She whispered, her eyes meeting his. He looked at her the same way he had at the ball, the same feeling came over her and her cheeks flushed under the scars. “I know, they all-they think I sleep with everyone, but I’ve never done more than kiss someone.” Her voice cracked with her words as she tried to wipe the tears away. She knew he was teasing, but the thought of everyone in the castle thinking she was sleeping around made her not only embarrassed, but feel even more worthless. Shyly, she looked away, turning her attention to what he’d brought her. He’d remembered that macaroons were her favorite and that she loved cats. Her hands went for the little stuffed cat, bringing it to her chest before looking up at him again. “Thank you, I love him.” She said, giving him a glimmer of a smile through her tears.
