Have a lovely night.Ā
(And thanks to all my new followers - hope I don't disappoint.)
"Virginia Potts, junior," he said. "I donāt know. It has a nice ring, donāt Ā you think? I donāt know if retroactively bribing an infant with having fertilized the egg that grew into it would work," he said, and chuckled.Ā
"Then again, I donāt know what would, when Iām trying to bribe little Ms. Overgrown Zygote to stop doing the cha-cha so you can sleep."
"I donāt think bribery works at all from this side." Pepper giggled. "The babyās dancing around more. It feels like the cha-cha on steroids. You donāt think itās because he or she was happier while you were reading. Do you?"
"I don't know...do you think if I talk to her?" said Hank.
"I could try it. Should I try it?"
h-p-mccoy
"Hello Dr.Mccoy! How are you today? Daddy isnāt in right now can I take a message for him?"
"Oh, no need, my dear young lady," he said, with a smile.Ā
"I was just dropping by on the off chance I could see him. I had no particular business of particular import."
"I'm charmed to find you at home in his place. If we've met, I feel as though it must have been long ago. In any case, I am both Doctor McCoy (as you already observed) and charmed to make your acquaintance." He proffered a large, blue, fur-covered hand to shake hers.
Hank cuddled her and leaned down. He spoke softly.Ā
"Hey, there, junior. Your mom needs to sleep. I know youāre too young to bribe, as yet, but if you do me this favor, Iāll think of one to do for you, I promise," he said.
"Honey? What if juniorās a girl?" She laughed, making her stomach shake. "What more of a bribe do you need than that you helped give our little one life?"
"Virginia Potts, junior," he said. "I don't know. It has a nice ring, don't Ā you think? I don't know if retroactively bribing an infant with having fertilized the egg that grew into it would work," he said, and chuckled.Ā
"Then again, I don't know what would, when I'm trying to bribe little Ms. Overgrown Zygote to stop doing the cha-cha so you can sleep."
"Iām ok," she groaned softly. "If the baby would stop moving around, Iād be much better." Pepper smiled in the darkness and put his hand onto her stomach.
Hank cuddled her and leaned down. He spoke softly.Ā
"Hey, there, junior. Your mom needs to sleep. I know you're too young to bribe, as yet, but if you do me this favor, I'll think of one to do for you, I promise," he said.
Is it true that you and Simon had a thing?
Hank chuckled.Ā
"I knew there were rumors of that. Not as such. He's very dear to my heart, and we certainly spent a great deal of time in one another's company, once upon a time..."Ā
"But if you're looking for salacious details, I'm afraid I can't oblige you."Ā
Pete nodded in amusement at Doctor McCoyās assessment of Tony Stark. The man was a living legend both reputation and money wise. One only had to say the name āStarkā and everyone knew who he was. With him it was usually āPeter who?ā
He was however able to answer Hankās question easily enough, still unsure as to whether he knew of Peteās costumed crusades across New York. āI dabble in photography, actually do a lot of work for the Bugle but I like to do my own freelance stuff as well. Pays the bills at least.ā He said with a dismissive head toss and a self deprecating smile.
"Sounds like you do quite a bit more than dabble, young man. If you're paying the bills with photography, that's an accomplishment."
"What sort of freelancing do you do? Is it weddings and things of that nature?" Hank asked.
Hank? Is that.. is that you?
"It is. How are you? Itās been quite a while."
Hankās eyebrows shot ceiling-wards. āOh, my stars and garters. Congratulations.āĀ
"And fatherhood should take up most of your time. Itāsā¦worth doing to the hilt, if youāre going to do it, I think."
"I agree." Relieved, too. Heād worried, for a moment, Hank might take the path others so often chose and question his lifeās ambition. Or lack thereof, depending. "A-anyway" Started Charles, realizing heād begun to drift. "What have you been up to?"
"Me? Sadly not much. I...uh.." Hank ran his fingers distractedly through the fur on his head. "I hit kind of a bad patch...emotionally. I was working and that was about all, for a while."Ā
He sighed. "It's...It seems to have subsided, for the moment. I'm doing better, anyway."
"I haven't been talking to everyone about it, but I know," he tapped his own temple, "you can always find out, if you want to. There never was any point in keeping secrets from you."Ā
Hank smiled. It came across as a little worn and tired, but genuine.
It's Bobby, I know you wanted to study some of the supernatural beings I hunt, and, um, I think I might have a case for you.
"Really? What sort of case?"Ā
Iād be interested to see the results from that. Ā The biggest side effect is my temperās gotten worse. Ā If you start noticinā any of the signs of a haunting, Itās me. Ā If I get agitated I become more like a ghost. Ā The further I go that way the angrier I get. Ā
But considerinā what killed me was gettinā shot in the head, anā this body was remade Iām interested to see what the equipment might say. Ā
Hank fiddled with a bunch of equipment and punched up a program on a computer with a large monitor.
"Interesting, well, we may be able to witness a different electrical signature if you are trending more...uh...ghostly, as you say."
He got out the web of electrodes. "Can I swap that hat for this one?" he asked, advancing on Bobby with it.
"Is it true that..." Finish it in my ask box!
Rough Day
"People will always be afraid of what they cannot understand." He sat next to his friend and sighed, "Mutants will be discriminated against. Probably as long as ānormalā humans are dominant in culture. We can work to making that punishable or educate the populace better, but people discriminate. Itās what they do."
He ran a hand through his hair, āHank, itās a long journey mutantkind is looking at, I wonāt lie to you⦠But itās a journey humanityās on. Thereās an endpoint. As long as we keep learning, humanity will learn to accept mutants. We have to. Youāre the next step in our evolution.ā
He chewed his lip. āYour kids are growing into a better world than what you grew up in already. Thereās a community for them now. Think about that.ā
Hank sighed and looked at his friend's feet.Ā
"True. That's true. I remember how long I feared I was the only one, though I suspected, logically, that I couldn't be..."
He tilted his head back and leaned against the wall, eyes closed.Ā
"Forgive me, forgive me, my friend. Sometimes I really hate humans. Sometimes I get so fed up. I've spent my life saving theirs and where has it gotten me? Still reviled. I just...I need a drink," he stopped and thought and opened his eyes back up. "I mean...another one."Ā
"You, I know, have had some unfortunate run-ins with people. How do you cope? How do you keep wishing any of them well?"Ā
Hm. Aren't you a sight for sore eyes?
"Am I? Thatās very kind of you to say. Likewise. How have you been faring?"
Hank froze.Ā
"Dawn. You donāt need to kill anyone. You donāt need to prove anything. You truly donāt."Ā
He moved over to sit by her.Ā
"Do you want to talk about what led you up to this point?"
"I have so much to gain from destroying them, Hank. So much satisfaction. I know they know what theyāve done to me. Morgan and Bruce having their child despite the love I had for him. Nehelenia and her unborn son Matthew giving me so much hope only to crush it. Hulk claiming heād never leave me alone and he did just that." Dawn stated bitterly and crossed one leg over the other.
"They toy with me because they can. Not because they actually felt an inkling of concern for me. They know how sensitive my psyche really is and yet they continue to hurt me because they donāt believe I can dish it right back." She shook her head and shut her eyes, her lips smiling wide.
"Not anymore. I think I like being crazy. It brings out the truth and despair in their eyes."
"Dawn, I can only imagine the pain you've been through. I do know that truly staggering amounts of pain can be inflicted on you by people who don't intend to hurt you at all. I don't think people ever meant to hurt you. They get wrapped up in themselves. What they did wasn't deliberate.
"They never should have promised you things they couldn't fulfill, but people do that all the time, and not on purpose, truly," said Hank, keeping his voice calm and even.Ā
"It's not fair that you were hurt, but hurting someone else in turn will not actually fix anything," he added.Ā
Long road home {Hank}
She couldnāt help but sputter out a laugh. āWouldnāt it be the other way around biologically speaking?ā She teased, smiling lightly.Ā
"yes Iām okay. It hurts, but itās going to. If you feel the need to have to x-ray my arm, again, to see the damages, as a doctor I understand." She said with a small sigh. "I understand youāre worried Hank, this isnāt the first time itās happened."Ā
"Mysteriously, knowing you've gotten broken bones before and almost certainly shall again, does little to nothing to make me worry less," he said, with a tight smile.Ā
"If you trust their doctors, then I will do the same, but you let me know if anything feels wrong and I'll take a look at it, okay?"
He pulled into his parking spot at the school, then rushed around to her side to open the door for her. He leaned in over her to undo her seatbelt, being careful not to jostle her arm.
Pepper turned away from him. āOk. Iāll try, but only because you asked me to. I would rather stay awake with you.ā She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"What if I try to sleep, too. Will that make it even?" Ā He asked, brushing her hair back, gently.
Pepperās breath hitched. She spoke as if she didnāt have any air in her lungs. āThat will make it even.ā
He smiled and kissed her, then got up to turn out the light.Ā
He put his reading glasses on top of the book on the nightstand and slid into the sheets beside her, putting arms around her.Ā
"Mmm...okay?"
H-Hello... A-are you Kurt's friend?
"I am, indeed. Are you a friend of his? Is there anything I can do for you, young man?"
The large furry, blue man grinned at him and proffered a large hand to shake his.
"My name is Doctor Hank McCoy."
-nods a bit, carefully lifting his shirt, revealing a somewhat large, clearly infected cut just below his ribs on his right side- ās makinā me sick⦠can you make it better? Iām scared of doctors, but Kurt said you wouldnāt hurt me⦠Kurt doesnāt know about this, please donāt tell himā¦
"I would never hurt you," said Hank with a reassuring smile. He squatted down to examine the cut. "Mm...this doesn't look too good. May I ask what caused this cut? And how long ago did you get it?"
//Off Ā for the night, folks.
He hugged her close and pressed his lips to the side of her head.Ā
"Te amo, dilectissimi," he murmured.Ā
"You should still rest, though. Sleep, if you can, okay?"
Pepper turned away from him. āOk. Iāll try, but only because you asked me to. I would rather stay awake with you.ā She took in a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"What if I try to sleep, too. Will that make it even?" Ā He asked, brushing her hair back, gently.
