this blog is mostly devoted to star trek tng because it’s my first hyperfixation in about 6 years and I’m thrilled to have the worms wriggling through my brain again

hi y’all! I got back from Star Trek: The Cruise IX a few days ago and thought I’d share some pics here! It was such a great time and I got to meet so many awesome people! It’s expensive and it’ll be a while before I can go again, but I would 100% recommend going if you can!

it was my birthday on thursday and my mom decided it would be a nice idea for us to marathon the star trek tos movies all day if I had no other plans (I postponed plans to drink with my friends so I could stay in after she told me). after taking the piss out of The Motion Picture and her falling asleep halfway through Wrath of Khan I decided to switch it up a bit by asking if she wanted to watch the episode of tng that made me cry. I showed her The Offspring. she did indeed cry too.

but then… she became invested

I turned my mom into a trekkie through emotional manipulation and honestly I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present

yeah okay deja q is what i needed to get q i think. the whole friendship with data especially, with both q and data having outsider perspectives on humanity but the difference being data's ability to be positive about humanity and, despite supposedly not having emotions, being possibly the first person ever to truly give a shit about q. q describing picard as the closest thing he has to a friend in the universe at the start of the episode (comedy) and then reflected in him saying that if he'd died no one would have cared he was gone (tragedy) at the end. the explicit framing of his attempt at a noble sacrifice being as a suicide as he realizes how miserable he is. just... imagine being immortal on the scale of billions and detached from everything and then, for the first time in your immortal existence, realizing that you're really fucking lonely. yeah you know what i might throw the enterprise at a borg cube just to get picard to say "i need you" too for that reason. and you're the comic relief character. what the fuck man,
