okay but what if I said Kronos became fond of Zeus while he was disguised as a servant???
what if I said Kronos grew to see who he thought was a random scruffy nobody as a son, starts petting his hair and affectionately grabbing his shoulder and everything???
what if after Zeus revealed his true intentions, Kronos was shocked, fury cutting through his shattered mind like a razor blade, yet impressed. Because that’s his son, that’s the heir meant to mirror him in every way, the son who has outsmarted him and will start tearing down his rule.
who will go further than he ever could.
Even as he looks up at the gods (his children he finally acknowledges), standing triumphantly over him, his youngest, his little self, the one who shall now shoulder his burdens for all eternity—
even as he sees Zeus wielding that scythe to be his doom, he laughs.
because that’s his son. That’s his own cruelty staring back at him, denying it.
his son has earned his love respect. After all, he beat him at his own game.
Greece will decay, fall after his fall, but he can’t help but grin in triumph, even as everything burns, as the last thing he sees is his heir staring down at him with his own weapon raised, ready to strike, his eyes full of rage and horror and fear and denial.
The Olympians were prophesied to be quicker, brighter, more powerful, evolved versions of the titans.
Kronos agrees with that sentiment now.
