Just finished heartstopper vol 6 on a Wednesday at 10:51pm and I am a mess, I genuinely have no words.. finishing the book felt like closing such a cherished part of my life, although the movie comes out on Friday I truely cannot grasp the reality of this all ending.
Dare I get into what heartstopper has meant for me, I first started watching heartstopper a year after it came out, I had previously read the books before the series came out but with going to a catholic school I was made to feel so ashamed of enjoying such āsinfulā material, and I hate to say I tried to understand their views.
The year after the first season came out I was at my lowest point, so young but such a reck, I had no friends, was getting bullied and had absolutely no clue who I was or where I lied.. I still donāt know those answers to be honest but I do know that thereās people out there just like me. People that needed friendships, comfort, community and to know they werenāt alone.
Getting to grow with the heartstopper adaptation over the years has been more than a privilege for me, I saw myself in Nick Nelson, the people pleasure who would do anything for the people he loved, the boy who had no idea of his sexuality and struggled to come to terms with it. I saw myself in Charlie, I struggled with myself, the sh the body image and fathoming the idea I could ever be loved for who I was. And I saw myself in Tara and Darcy, on one hand I was so afraid and still am petrified of people knowing my sexuality but on the other hand I would be so free and happy.
Im gonna shut up now but i just wanted to say a huge thank you to Alice Oseman, I doubt sheād ever see this but youāve changed my life for the better and I admire and appreciate your strength in bringing such an amazing community together. And ofcourse to all the heartstopper fans we truely are so lucky to have such an incredible show!!
