2013 was when I got a little taste of independence. I think it serves me well if I’m left alone and I meet new people. Sometimes I just wished I had a new identity and started over. But 2013 I visited Houston to be with my Aunt’s family. She needed help babysitting her two young children while she was taking care of her husband who was undergoing cancer treatment. I drew this little sketch (don’t worry I’m not proud of it either) on my iPad when I was waiting sitting in a fancy Gazebo inside the Hospital waiting room -- no wait, FLOOR. The hospital was MD Anderson Cancer Center and apparently it is one of the best cancer hospitals in the country. I could say I’m lucky to have been there.
This sketch was my view. Of course the heart in the middle was not really there. Sometimes when I have a huge crush on someone, I tend to draw little and big hearts on my doodles. I did have a huge crush in summertime Houston, I met him at a Filipino church where my aunt took me on Sundays. We worked with Kids for VBS and he wasn’t the best looking person in the planet, but he was easy to talk to and there’s something about him that was attractive. Even though it was just a fling, my time spent there was home away from home. I just didn’t like the weather though lol. I remember him telling me I was a good soul, and I think that was the best compliment I have ever received.
