What a funny way to say “cops blew up neighborhood”

It’s been really hilarious to watch the LAPD try to dodge any responsibility for this while the media tries desperately to help them by publishing the most confusing fucking headlines but what really happened is that the cops found and confiscated thousands of pounds of “illegal” fireworks in LA and then decided to take 10 pounds of that, call the press, and make a show of using their new expensive toy, the “total containment” truck that is supposed to be able to take explosions of up to 15 pounds.

So they took the 10 pounds of explosives and their toy truck to a poor Black neighborhood, got reporters there, stuck the explosives inside, and set them off intentionally instead of just defusing them like they did with the other 4,990 pounds of fireworks.

For some reason, likely because something went wrong with their truck which I bet cost the city a shit ton of money, the containment completely failed and the explosion destroyed cars, homes, and injured 17-19 people (I’ve seen different reports with different numbers), a couple of whom were in critical condition but it sounds like everyone survived.

The LAPD then had the audacity to tweet that they didn’t know what caused the explosion when it was them who caused the explosion, intentionally, and we know because they called the media so that everybody could see them do it.

In summary, the LAPD wanted to show off/justify their ridiculous budget but their expensive toy was a dud and so they ended up bombing a poor Black neighborhood (because they would never risk this in a white neighborhood) and don’t want to admit it.

Neither. I used to be a Democrat when I was younger, but now I’m a leftist/socialist. (I do vote Democrat—unwillingly—however, because I believe the harm reduction aspect plays a part while we work toward a socialist revolution/social change. A small part, to be sure, but a part nonetheless.)

Systemic racism against Indigenous Peoples in Canada is very real and present, especially in the health system.

Today, Joyce Echaquan, an Indigenous woman from Manawan First Nation, died in horrible conditions and around racist staff at Joliette hospital in Montreal city. She shared a live video of her on Facebook crying for help in her mother tongue, saying that she received too much medication. In the video, we can also hear two caregivers saying violent and harmful words to her, like “fucking fat woman, it’s better if you’re dead” “are you done joking around” 

This is so revolting, and unfortunately it’s a reality for the Indigenous community here. They’re completely marginalized. The health care system doesn’t care about them.

Alright I'm not trying to be shitty here but. Like. So what are your plans for when every leftist grits their teeth and shows up at the polls and the third party vote is lower than it was in 2016 and Trump still wins?

Because i know, i know, Nader and Stein and blah blah blah, but exit polls suggest that in a two-party-only election it still would have been a toss up between Trump and Clinton - sure Clinton might have had all of Jill Stein's votes but Trump would have had all of Gary Johnson and Tim McMullin's votes. Pennsylvania goes to Clinton, Florida goes to Trump, and flip a coin in Michigan.

Because I'm seeing a lot of people saying "now that RBG died you HAVE to vote, it's more important than EVER" but.

Like. What's your plan for high voter turnout and low numbers of third party votes and low numbers of write-ins and a vote in Wyoming still counts six times as much as a vote in California and most states are winner take all and districts are gerrymandered all to hell - what's your plan for when you canvass and you're working the polls and you're driving the people from the old folks home to do early voting and Biden wins the popular vote and still loses the election?

Because I'm seeing a lot of well-meaning liberals act like it's the *tiny* percentage of the population who are anarchists who are going to be held responsible and blamed for the next fifty years of darkness and the death of democracy.

You know what anarchists didn't do in 2016? Protest vote for Jill Stein in a presumed-safe election.

You know what anarchists didn't do in 2000? Vote for Ralph Nader.

Start acting like you expect Trump to win. Start acting like abortions in your state are going to become illegal. Start acting like your pre-existing condition is going to cost you your health insurance.

Start making plans for finding alternate ways to get people their hormones and insulin. Start learning how to admimister an abortion with medication. Start taking first aid classes, start learning how to mix and pour concrete so they can't shut off your water, start learning how to steal power, start learning how to set up mesh networks and secure communications.

Hey, even worse, what if it does work but wages stay stagnant, healthcare gets more expensive, fracking continues and Amazon never has to pay taxes while abusing its employees, and an anti abortion centrist or a pro private prison liberal gets appointed to the supreme court? If Clinton was willing to run with an anti-choice VP in 2016 and the dems were willing to let her I don't have a lot of confidence in the SCOTUS nominees they'll manage to get installed on the court.

It's fine if you believe that voting works, go vote, I'm not going to stop you and I'm going to vote myself.

But what are you going to do if it doesn't work?

THAT is what my list of anarchist resources is for and THAT is why "go vote" is not on that list.

For a lot of people who are worried that the death of a single person can eradicate seventy years of political progress you sure do seem optimistic that the system works.

Okay I know this is about acting and people are getting more traction about it (sexuality safety coordinators are a job! yell about them. demand your shows get them) but

Any person who has worked on a set for more than a few years has at least one person they know who died.  

Not usually on set, but afterwards.  Because we don’t have anyone shutting down production for unsafe practices when “unsafe” means 16 hour days.  Or more.  For weeks.  Finishing a day before hour 12 (not including lunch) is considered an early leave.

I had teachers tell us not to, unless we absolutely had to, take music video gigs because they’ll work you for 24 hours and send you to drive home.  And if we had to work that, pull over and nap in our car because multiple people per year fall asleep at the wheel and go over the canyons around LA.

I know you mean acting but please.  Don’t forget the crew.  We have a shockingly high rate of suicide because these working schedules leave us with no sleep, no time outside of work, and it destroys lives, relationships, and families.  Burnout is high.  Chronic illness and broken bodies are common.  Cocaine use in order to get through a 20 hour day is rampant.  Every single one of your reality shows is fueled by cocaine.

The number of days that are scheduled to shoot a feature has shrunk dramatically in the past two decades.  Which means longer days.

Netflix shows are notorious for being poorly organized, understaffed, and long days.

There are labor laws but what they do is levy fines.  Those fines are either factored into budget, people are bullied into not reporting actual hours, or crew members see them as incentive to take those jobs because more money and cost of living is high.  (Also this industry has a crew culture of dick measuring by sticking your wang in a blender and boasting about how many 100 hour weeks you pulled.)

this can be applied for people working in animation as well. Like I know people who work at Pixar and they straight up work 12 hour days and go into work on weekends to meet their deadlines. The incredibles 2 made over a billion dollars and Pixar still cut jobs due to “budget”. The entertainment industry is a business at the end of the day. There here to make money and they are going to do it at the expense of workers because they know no one is going to do anything about it.

This is why I get pissy when people have a go about British TV shows only producing 10-12 episodes per season at most, instead of 24. Do you know why? Because the UK has fucking labour laws.

When I worked on BBC Causalty, as soon as it hit 5pm, everything stopped. The producer/director etc would have a quick meeting to decide if we’d go into overtime or schedule it in later in the week. And I got an extra payslip in the mail for every minute of overtime I did, even though I was paid a weekly rate.

I don’t care if it means producing less content. I don’t care if it means it costs twice as much - if treating your creatives and your crew like shit is needed to make your show, then your show doesn’t deserve to get made.

And that’s aside from the fact that actors are often exploited, neglected, coerced into doing scenes they’re uncomfortable with etc or outright abused by directors for the sake of ~performance.

No art is worth that.
