omg, my media thoughts!

safety safety safety. Let's be safe online, or not - after this week's readings, I've been thinking about how social media is both this amazing tool for connection - something that I've been able to experience first hand and a total dumpster fire when it comes to safety, particularly for marginalized groups - but yet, in that same token, it's a place to find others like yourself.

I believe the media is meant to be a bubble surrounding us, informing us, performing for us - and however much you allow it to take up your life is what you allow. we have block buttons, mute buttons, and cataclysms of information to be absorbed or ignored - while I can emphasize and sympathize - feel and understand this particular ache, I can also recognize that the media is just. reflect of the people in the world, and while social media can be gently mandated, the issue is a retroactive continuous cycle of hatred, that simply goes unchecked online. It is a place with no rules, except when there are -

Ok so I wish i was joking but I’m not. I used to crawl into the roof and scramble over the wood rafters to hang out in there. The floor was the ceiling so I couldnt rlly step on anything but the wood but in the dead center of the ceiling I made a small effigy to L from death note when I was 14. I had a barbie doll of which I cut her hair and colored it black with a sharpie and like cut her legs apart and reglued them so they were in L’s sitting pose. I printed out like L x Light yaoi art and taped that up there as well. I melted wax and made like a wax clump bust of L, and I cut off some of my hair and used hot wax to stick it to the wood. I also recall leaving binder paper fanfic and some other bullshit. Somewhere on this earth is a house who’s roof is stuffed with a 14 year old girl’s freak worship of L from deathnote.
