Right now, he should be napping. He’s officially missed his afternoon snooze and it’s all his roommate’s fault. It’s difficult to nap whilst hearing rhythmical thumping in the room adjacent to his and Jaeho had been far too flustered to even try, the male having left the apartment the second he heard such raunchy noises and refusing to return until the end of his final class a few hours later. With the library being far too packed around this time of the day, and the weather actually feeling good for once, he’s plopped himself outside, book about quantum physics in one hand and a now empty cup of coffee on the grass beside him.
The first time he notices the purple haired girl, he assumes she’s staring at something or someone else. Jaeho isn’t the type of guy people stare at, unless they’re wondering what’s wrong with his face or why he’s so short. So with that, he doesn’t think anything of it. He does, however, end up glancing up again, only to discover she’s still staring at him. Right at him. Well, this is a first. While a part of him still thinks she could easily be looking at something else, he decides not to turn around and look behind him at the last second like an idiot and smiles at her instead. Good call. That way, if she is looking at something else he doesn’t seem like a clueless loser. But if she is looking at him, he hopefully seems happy and somewhat approachable. Apparently, he is approachable, as she’s soon packing her stuff up and heading towards him.
“My bag?” And then, this girl’s rambling about…something. Jaeho’s prone to rambling himself, so he doesn’t mind. He’s more confused than anything. The phrases sound familiar, like he’s heard them before. Levis…Survey Corps… Suddenly, it hits him upside the face. “Oh! Attack on Titan!” If this girl had approached him to talk about anime, she’s seriously going to be disappointed. “You see, I only watched about, ah, two episodes of that? Maybe one? My sister gave it to me ‘cause someone gave it to her and I’m only using it now because I threw up on my actual backpack last weekend and it still smells weird.” Nice. Smooth. Nothing like telling a pretty girl that he’s thrown up on his backpack. No wonder people rarely approach him like this. Fortunately, Jaeho’s learned to laugh at his awkward self and he does just that.
It’s safe to say Joohyun has never felt this embarrassed in her life. Okay, that might not be entirely true. There was that one time in kindergarten where she had sat on a piece of chocolate, and the spot on her clean skirt had looked like something else entirely. That might have been more embarrassing, but Joohyun is sure this encounter comes close. Now she has two options; the first is to run away, and pretend she never even spoke to the boy, but she has purple hair, and he’s seen her up close so she’s pretty sure he could pick her from the crowd if they ever were to meet again. Or she can befriend him and hope that one day he’ll forget about this encounter entirely, the memory suppressed by years and years of friendship.
Joohyun doesn’t have many friends, and she refuses to change her hair color, so she goes for option two.
“Ah, you’re just a regular normie dweeb,”
Ah yes, insulting a new potential friend is most definitely the way to his heart. So Joohyun tries again, this time by reaching inside her lunch box, and offering a piece of her sandwich to him. Now she’s decided to stick around, she best share some of her food with him. That’d way, if anyone were to walk past them, they would blindly assume Joohyun is familiar with this boy, and not think she is a complete freak for attempting to befriend someone over a backpack. A backpack that is only replacing a pukepak at that.
“Please accept my sandwich and don’t run away,” she mumbles, taking a bite from her own piece as she holds out the one designated for him. “I am embarrassed, and a little flustered, and if you don’t take my food people will think I confessed to you and got rejected and that is embarrassing for the both of us.” It’s really only embarrassing for her. Joohyun is legitimately flustered, however. “My name is Joohyun, by the way. I’m twenty, ah--” She immediately switches to formal speech. “How old are you?”
