Cheesy was definitely one way to describe it. But, seriously, there was nothing wrong with being cheesy sometimes. Especially at a time like this. That grin on Lincoln’s face was so freaking cute and his excitement was infectious. She wanted to hear him ramble on about his boyfriend without holding back- just straight up gushing about the guy with no need to feel flustered or embarrassed. Seriously, she just loved seeing him like this.
Once they were sitting, Yongsun opened her bottle of water, took a sip of it as Lincoln started talking. Christian, but pronounced like Kuh-ris-chee-ahn. She would have to commit that to memory. If she did get a chance to meet the guy, the last thing she wanted was to forget his name. Not that she thought that was even entirely possible. She might not remember most things very well, but names stuck with her pretty easily. Warm, but standoffish. She could totally handle that. Not a problem. She’d just have to keep that in mind when they first met in case he was kind of quiet or something- she wouldn’t want to take it the wrong way. That’s just how some people are, right? At his mention of it being weird describing someone else, Yongsun gave a soft laugh, “Well you’re doing great so far. And, honestly? It’s fun hearing you talk about him.”
Lincoln shifted in his seat and Yongsun did the same. Facing each other like this felt a little less casual, more intimate- but in a good way. It was like they were sharing important secrets or something. In fact, that wasn’t too far off from what they were actually doing, was it? Yongsun put her water aside for now, wiped her hands on her skirt (because the condensation from the bottle had left her hands just slightly wet), then she reached out to take Lincoln’s hands in hers as he spoke. Maybe it was unnecessary to do so (it was totally unnecessary to do so), but she enjoyed the contact. Also, she kind of hoped that it was encouraging in some way, too? Like, a sign to keep talking as much as he wanted because she was paying full attention, engaged in what he was saying. Christian sounded pretty great, honestly. Of course, if he wasn’t great, she doubted Lincoln would be with him, and he definitely wouldn’t be this happy to talk about him.
“Lincoln, I wish you could see the way your eyes light up when you’re talking about him. It’s incredibly endearing. I’ve seen you happy plenty of times, but never quite like this.” Yongsun said, the smile never leaving, “I’ve never met him, but just hearing you talk about him makes me like him already. He may not be perfect, but he sounds kind of perfect for you- you know what I mean?” She gave his hands a small squeeze, “Christian…” It was easier to commit it to memory when the name was spoken aloud, “Also- is it weird that I kind of think that the fact that you guys have had fights in the past is a good thing? Like- you know what to expect out of disagreements with each other and such which is great, because honestly, it’s impossible to avoid that kind of stuff. But you’ve made it through some of that already and you still love each other, right?” Then, a small pause, a thought, “Wait. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say “love”. Like, have you two said that? Are you there yet? Because it sounds like it. But I might be wrong? Or- uh?” Was that even something she needed to worry about messing up? She was probably just overthinking it, “Anyway- what I meant was, you two are still together, so clearly your bond is pretty strong. I mean, hell, you’re even living together. So like, not that you need it or anything, but you two one thousand percent have my blessing. I love seeing you so happy. I also love hearing you gush about him. It’s really sweet.”
Lincoln put his water bottle aside at the same time as Yongsun, not really intending to drink it anyway, since it was just a habit to grab two of them at once the fridge and he was preoccupied with the current conversation to pay it any attention. “Really? Well, I’m glad someone’s happy to listen to my rambling. I know I just said it was weird to talk about someone else, but it’s pretty cool, too.. You know? For once. I told you first, but I also don’t plan on telling more than, like.. one other person, maybe two. So thanks for giving me that ‘outlet?’” He glanced down as the other took his hands before chuckling. “And for being super supportive, of course. It’s nice.”
And afterwards, he just listened. It was secretly a relief to hear that she found the less-than-perfect beginning of his relationship to be a good thing, since he thought the same way; Lincoln knew it didn’t sound great, but that initial rockiness led to a lot of understanding later, and nowadays things were a lot more peaceful with any new issues being resolved more quickly ( and with more discussion, instead of just bickering in circles or trying to be right ). He was planning to mention that as soon as there was the appropriate lull for him to answer and not cut his friend off, but he didn’t get the chance before the whole ‘love’ word was thrown out.
The male scoffed softly and rolled his eyes, before grinning when he looked back at Yongsun. “It’s been at that point for a long ass time already.. And-- I mean, I didn’t roll my eyes at you or anything, since that would be pretty stupid. It’s just that..” He narrowed his eyes a little as he thought. “Hm, well..” With the several ‘go-aheads’ to be as cheesy or open about his feelings as he wanted, he decided to just give in and express himself honestly. “I feel like we’ve been at that point for a long time even before saying it to each other. Like, honestly, we barely even say it now. And it probably sounds weird, but I’m fine with it, because it’s shown in other ways. You can tell someone you love them until the cows come home, but it doesn’t mean shit if your actions don’t back it up.. Like, he’s ordered me fast food delivery to the house when I’m home alone and he’s at work-- and if that’s not true love, then I don’t know what is,” he laughed. “That’s what I like. Not the frou-frou shit of heart chocolates and whatever else. Like, wow, he loves me enough to think of me at work and send me some chicken nuggets? Fuck.”
The only lingering trouble in the conversation was that he worried about something sounding ‘wrong’. He didn’t have much point of reference when it came to others’ relationships outside of movies and tv shows, so he was just waiting for a puzzled look when something he said didn’t match up with them. “I.. suddenly don’t know if that’s weird or not? It sounds silly, I dunno. None of my friends are in full-on relationships that I know of, so it’s hard to, like.. compare? I think I’m doing this right, and stuff’s nice and happy, but I worry about it. Is that dumb to worry about?”
