Tighnari, much to Cynoâs dismay, was scouting a near by area making sure that it was clear from enemies or any other sort of danger. Cyno wasnât happy about his partner going out on his own, because he didnât like the thought of his pregnant mate being by himself, especially where he could get hurt. However, the alpha was never going to win in an argument with his pregnant omega. Of course, he wasnât, this was Tighnariâs job that he takes seriously. Protecting his people and making sure they are all in good health was what got him through most days. That and Cyno coming home from being away in the desert for weeks on end.
Tighnari looked around the area he was in quickly sighing and patting a rock before sitting down with a satisfied huff. He placed his hand on his stomach and smiled as he felt it get warm beneath his palm.
âI know baby, mummy is almost done. Then we can go home, and daddy can have his time with youâ.
The baby kicked beneath the omegas hand and the fennec chuckled lightly.
âOkay, okay. Iâll tell him not to share anymore of his bad jokes with youâ.
Tighnari chuckled a little more and rubbed small circles over his little bump.
In the rangerâs clothes you couldnât tell he was 7 and a half months pregnant. He was barely showing. But that was only natural for a fennecs first pregnancy. Plus, Tighnari was happy with that matter. It meant he was able to continue working without feeling too heavy and getting tired easily. Although there was one thing, he wasnât too pleased with and that was how hungry he would get after doing the simplest of tasks. Right now, he had just scouted the area for less then an hour and now he was sat on a rock eating mushrooms as if they were the best tasting things in the whole world.
Once he was done, he stood and dusted himself down before grabbing his bow and setting off to finish the route he was on. As he got close to one of the withering zones, he made sure to ignore it, but just as he past it he heard a twig break behind him. He turned with his bow at the ready, frowning when he saw that no one or nothing was there. Another twig broke, this time from the side. Tighnariâs ear twitched and he swung around quickly.
The omega called out and squinted his eyes. It was silent for a moment, not even the fennecs amazing hearing could hear anything. He lowered his bow slowly and took a few steps forward before he heard the yelling of tressure hoarders and some Fatui members charging at him.
He quickly leaped from mushroom-to-mushroom shooting multiple arrows at each and everyone one of the attackers. Focusing on all their weak points that he had researched from previous matches against them. The hoarders and the Fatui were dropping like flies and running away in fear. A few of the arrows and spears that were thrown at Tighnari he managed to dodge and avoid them, with only a few skimming his arms and face ever so slightly.
One cut in particular on the omegas face was dripping blood down his cheek and neck. He placed the tips of his fingers over the cut and when he looked his vision went a little blurry. He frowned as the sight of blood never usually bothered him, could it be the pregnancy making him a little more sensitive to things. As the fennec was caught off guard the taller of the Fatui grabbed him by the throat and lifted him from the ground. Tighnari gasped and dropped his bow to grab the Fatuiâs hand to pry himself free. His legs swinging and swaying as he struggled to break free from the tight hold he was in, all while concentrating on breathing.
His fight started to weaken and his struggling lessened. His eyes slowly began to fall shut.
Tighnariâs thoughts struck him like the lightening from the past, and he gained enough strength to swing his leg around and kick the Fatui member in the face so hard that he dropped the fennec and went flying across the grass bank. Tighnari gripped his throat and gasped for breath right before he eyed up his bow and dived for it. Only to be met with a treasure hoardersâ foot to the chest and the poor omega yelped and went flying down the bank after the previous Fatui member.
Tighnari stayed laying on the ground for a few moments before he regained some consciousness and sighed in relief that he managed to grab his bow right before hurtling down the bank. The omega placed his hand on his stomach in protection before he pulled back on his bow and pointed it towards the larger Fatui member.
âWhat do you want from around here?â
Tighnari asked and his vision went in and out from blurriness. He felt sick and his head was pounding. He knew that if Cyno was to find out about this, he would hit the rough with worry and continuous âI told you soâsâ.
~ canât let that happen⌠lets just get this over with ~
The omega thought to himself but staggered backwards ever so slightly. The taller Fatui laughed at the fennecâs struggles.
âWhat we want, is for your precious land. What do you need all that space for anyway? There canât be that many people living in the forest. Plus, we heard its perfect for farming and trapping many thingsâ.
The taller smirked at Tighnari
The omega frowned at the other and pulled further back on his bow.
âLeave! Just leave now and you wonât get hurt!â
Tighnari threatened. His eyes widened as the taller started taking steps towards him, clearly ignoring his threats. He pulled back on the bow fully and shot one of his most poisonous arrows at the taller. What he wasnât expecting was for the taller to whip out a shield and have his very own bow repel off it and shoot right back at him. Stabbing him right in the side of the stomach
ân-no⌠it⌠canât beâ.
Tighnari stuttered as he placed his hand around the arrow sticking out the side of his stomach. His legs already starting to feel numb and his mind going blank right before he fell to the side and rolled further down the grass bank, through the bushes and between some rocks until his body flipped off the edge of a cliff and hurtled to the ground. He hit a small mushroom at the bottom and his body bounced up before slamming down into the ground. He gasped a weak yelp and coughed up some bile before realising he had landed in the withering zone.
âAh⌠ugh⌠ow, ow, owâ
The omega rolled on to his back and felt the dried-up grass against his showing skin.
âNo, no, no. the baby, no pleaseâ
Tighnari panicked as he held on to the arrow wedged into his stomach. He could feel the poison coursing through that side of his body, and it was making him feel even more numb. The withering zone wasnât helping as his mind started to fade further and further along with his will to keep breathing. But he knew he had to.
Each breath was like razor blades down the throat and in his chest. His eyes began to water when he felt that it was wet around him, because he knew that the withering zones were bone dry and crisp to touch. He knew that it was him causing the wetness around himself.
Surrounding him like a shallow puddle. At this point he didnât know where he was bleeding from, but the pain he was in, he could have sworn that it was every inch of his body.
âBaby⌠no⌠baby⌠Iâm so sorry. Cyno⌠s-sorryâ
The omegas hand fell from the arrow with a wet slap to the floor, his body fell limp and his eyes slowly fell shut.
Cyno was stood outside Tighnariâs home talking to Collei.
âLook, I get that you couldnât stop him from going, but could you have at least bought some time? Just until I got backâ.
The alpha spoke in a way not to seem too intimidating. Collei looked down and held her hands together.
âI-Iâm sorry Cyno, I really couldnât stop him. I was away getting the herbs he asked for and by the time I came back, he was already goneâ.
Collei shied away slightly when Cyno huffed.
The alpha felt agitated and worried. He paced in front of the door a few times wondering why the hell his pregnant omega isnât home when it is already dark outside. He stopped and bit on his thumb nail with thoughts of the worst circling his mind.
That was, until he was interrupted from his thoughts by a very small plump aranara. Cyno raised a brow and turned around.
The small aranara jumped with its little arm in the air. Cyno looked down with a thrown and knelt before the creature.
âIâm Arana. You must come with me quickly!â
The small aranara began to rush off ahead.
âHey wait! Where are you going? And why do I need to go with you? I need to wait here for my partner!â
Cyno almost growled as another wave of worry coursed through his veins.
~ Tighnari, where are you? ~
The alpha thought to himself as he almost fell to his knees.
âNo! you must come with Arana! I can show you where he is! He is hurt, he needs helpâ.
The aranaraâs words stabbed Cyno through the heart as he looked at the small creature with a worried expression.
âWhat? What do you mean hurt?â
The alpha ran up to the aranara.
âI will explain on the way! Quick! We must goâ.
The travels through the forest and land felt longer than what they actually were. With Cynoâs thoughts running wild and the shir panic beating in his chest.
âArana can go no furtherâ.
The creature bounced on their feet as they turned to Cyno. The alpha frowned and looked ahead.
âWell, thatâs a withering zone⌠why did you bring me here?!â
Cyno sounding even more mad that he wasnât by his pregnant omegas side.
âWell, thatâs just it. The fox boy is in thereâ.
Arana looked sad as they pointed over to the withering zone.
Cynoâs heart dropped, and his face turned into that of a horrified one.
He wasted no time abandoning the aranara that brought him here and ran straight into the withering zone. He instantly stopped and hunched over as if he was getting suffocated by the red plants around him. He shook it off the best he could to carry on searching for Tighnari.
It was hard to see through the dark mist in the air and the suffocatingly thick fog. But he wasnât giving up, he continued to search the withering zone until he saw something he wished he hadnât.
Tighnariâs broken bow on the floor.
Cyno breathed and dropped to his knees. He picked up the pieces of the bow and clenched them within his grip.
âNari⌠where the hell are you?â
The alpha whispered and held back tears that were pricking at his eyes. He stood back up and made his way further into the withering zone and dropped the broken bow on the floor as he noticed his pregnant omega laying still on the ground in a puddle of blood. He rushed over to him and dropped to his side.
Cyno yelled in panic and scanned over his body.
It was pale, covered in scrapes, bruises and cuts. Blood covering most parts of him that it was hard to tell where he was bleeding from. His chest barely raising as his breath became weaker and weaker. The worst part was when Cyno noticed the arrow sticking out of the side of his pregnant omegas stomach. He instantly ripped open his clothes and saw a strange black marking surrounding the wound where the poison was clearly spreading. Blood was still pouring from the wound causing the puddle under the omega to grow bigger and deeper. Thatâs when Cyno noticed that blood was pouring from between Tighnariâs legs too. His heart sunk and tears trickled down his dry cheeks.
âNo⌠oh god⌠no no noâ
The alpha placed his arms under Tighnariâs neck and legs. He lifted him carefully not to nudge the arrow further into his mateâs stomach and darted as fast as he could out of the withering zone. Tighnariâs ears fell floppy as he stayed unconscious in his alphaâs arms, his breathing becoming hitched and strained. A hiccup mixed with a soft burp erupted from the omega and when Cyno looked down at him he noticed that his omega had coughed up blood and it was now staining his chin. Black bags had formed under Tighnariâs eyes and a sweat above his brow.
âJust hold on a little longer Nari. Were almost back at the forest⌠I will get you the help you needâ.
Cyno spoke as he choked on tears. Having his extremely injured mate in his arms and potentially dying unborn was enough to give the alpha tunnel vision. He picked up speed and darted past people that he had come across in Sumeru city. Everyone gasped and started talking as the sight before them was enough to panic an archon. People watching as the General Mahamatra was speeding through so fast, he was leaving a trail of purple lightening.
With a hefty lightening bang Cyno retuned to the forest with Tighnari still not looking any better in his arms. The forest watchers and rangers quickly spun to see what was happening and gasped when they saw the state of Tighnari. Collei gasped and cupped her hand over her mouth.
âm-master Tighnari? Wh-what happened to him?â
Colleiâs tears poured down her cheeks. Cynoâs expression was deadpan when he turned to the young girl.
âGo get Nahida. Now!â
Cyno ordered making Collei jump and quickly rush off to the city with a few other people.
Some of the citizens crowded the alpha in worry as they watched him enter Tighnariâs home. He placed the omega on his bed before rushing around trying to find gores and bandages to slow the bleeding down. He chucked everything in a bucket beside the bed and began to remove some of the fennecâs clothes, again making sure not to nudge the arrow sticking out of him.
Cyno choked on a sob when he noticed just how badly injured his mate was under his clothes. The poison from the arrow also causing the left side of the omegas body to turn a streaky black.
âNari⌠please⌠please donât leave meâ.
The alpha begged and cupped Tighnariâs cheek. He carefully wiped at the cut on his face with his thumb. Tighnari was still unresponsive, and his skin was becoming more and more pale. It was horrible to think, but it was probably a good thing that the omega wasnât conscious to feel his injuries. Cynoâs bottom lip quivered as he placed his hand gently on his omegas baby bump, which he could now see that there werenât any clothes covering it. He rubbed small circles and looked up to stop the tears from escaping.
âPlease survive⌠please⌠both of you. I donât know what I would do if I lost you guysâ.
Cyno breathed in little hitches as he tried even harder not to completely break down. He must have been completely out of it, as he didnât realise there was many medics coming in and out of the tented home to cater to Tighnariâs wounds.
What felt like forever went by until he heard a familiar voice.
âEveryone other than the General Mahamatra, please leave the tent.â
Nahida ordered and everyone bowed before her before quickly leaving the tent.
Cyno looked up through blurred vision as the tears never stopped falling down his cheeks. He never once let go of his omegas hand, and even when he realised Nahida was stood in front of him, he still held on to the fennecâs hand, this time with a slightly tighter grip.
âNahida⌠please⌠is he? Is our baby?â
Cyno couldnât even finish his sentence, instead he looked to the side and bit his quivering lip. Nahida looked at Tighnari with a sad expression and then to the ground. It had been a long time since she had seen someone in such a state. She took a deep breath and placed the tips of her thumbs and index fingers together to look through. She scanned the omegas body and dropped her arms to the side with a sigh.
âWhat? What is it? Please⌠please tell me they will be okayâ.
Cyno begged while crawling to his knees. Nahida turned to the alpha and looked him seriously in the eyes.
âCyno. I need you to listen to me carefully, okay?â
The alpha nodded and took a deep breath before fully concentrating on Nahidaâs words.
âThe baby is still alive, but only just. The poison from the arrow is spreading rapidly through Tighnariâs body. It has almost reached his heart, if it does⌠it will be fatal for the both of them. We need to remove that arrow immediately. However, that will more than likely wake Tighnari, and he will be in an extreme amount of pain. Your job is to keep him as still as possible no matter what. It wonât be easy; do you think you can do it?â
Nahida seriously asked and Cyno nodded his head quickly before positioning himself at Tighnariâs head, slowly lifting his upper half up so that he could sit behind the omega and have his back rest against his chest.
The alpha spoke stern as he held on to his pregnant omega.
With the power of dendro, Nahida slowly started to pull the arrow out of the omegas body.
Tighnariâs eyes whipped open and his mouth fell open in a silent scream before he fell further back on to Cynoâs chest.
âItâs okay Nari, we got youâ.
Cyno tried to reassure his partner.
Tighnari was panting heavily and whimpering violently. Nahida had almost fully pulled the arrow out but stopped when the omega jolted and let out a howling scream. Tears fell down his cheeks and his head rolled side to side against Cynoâs chest.
The omega tried to fold himself in half as the pain in his stomach felt like razor blades cutting him from the inside out.
âNo! Nari stop! You have to keep still! If you donât the poison will spread to your heart⌠youâll die Nari! You canât die on me, you canât leave me, I canât live without you!â
Cyno pleaded with Tighnari, and the omega slumped back and cried softly.
The omega whimpered and Cyno used his hand to brush Tighnariâs hair away from his face.
âI know baby, I know. Here, bite on thisâ
The alpha moved Tighnariâs tail out the way and brought his wrist up to the omegas mouth. Tighnari moved his head to the side as he didnât want to hurt his alpha. But in that moment Nahida fully pulled out the arrow and the poison began to pour and drain out of the wound.
The feeling of the poison emptying from his body felt like millions of thorns slicing through his veins and nerves that he wasted not time in digging his small fangs in to his alphaâs wrist. Cyno flinched with a frown but allowed his omega to use him for some sort of pain relief.
It must have been an hour in the making that Nahida was draining more and more of the poison. Tighnari was getting weaker and weaker, until eventually his body fell limp and he slumped against Cynoâs chest.
Cyno panicked when he noticed his mate fall unconscious.
âitâs okay. His body has just been over working. The poison has been fully extracted now, Him and the baby will be just fineâ.
Nahida smiled softly at Cyno, and the alpha breathed a laugh/sigh of relief and allowed his own head to rest behind him on the headboard.
âCyno⌠Cyno⌠Cyno?â
Cynoâs eyes slowly blinked open and he frowned as he tried to take in his surroundings. When did he fall asleep? Where was he now? And was that.
The alpha sat up quickly and turned to the side to see the pregnant omega laying beside him on his side with his hand resting on his little baby bump. He huffed a relieved sigh and smiled lovingly at his omega.
Cyno slumped back down on his back and chuckled with his arm over his eyes. Tighnariâs tail wagged slightly before coming to a still. The omega raised a brow.
The omega moved his alphas arm and saw tears falling lightly down his cheeks.
âIâm sorry Nari⌠Iâm just so happy that youâre okayâ.
The alpha laughed in disbelief before rolling over and pulling the omega into his arms.
âI love you so damn muchâ.
Tighnari smiled and nestled into his alphaâs chest.
After all that, never again was he going out to scout the area.
Until the baby is born that is.
