Besides protecting them, being friends with a Slytherin is so important to a Hufflepuff in the long run. Slytherins are usually the ones who set the example that it’s okay to not trust everyone. When Hufflepuffs get hurt going out of their way to help everyone, not only will a Slytherin properly take care of whoever hurt their cinnamon bun, but they’ll also be there to encourage the Hufflepuff that there’s nothing wrong with looking after themselves. Such cute.
