Here Comes... Daredevil Bingo, Round Two!

Daredevil Bingo is a challenge in the spirit of other fandom bingo challenges (kink_bingo, cottoncandy_bingo, xmfc_bingo, etc.) Participants sign up for a randomized bingo card and then create fanworks to complete a “bingo” down, across, or diagonally on the card. If a participant completes a bingo during a round, they can request a new card.

While Daredevil Bingo is largely focused on the current Netflix TV series and the wider Marvel Netflix universe (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders, The Punisher), fanworks related to the comics are welcome!

Timeline:

Round One sign-ups begin: November 8, 2018

Round One ends: November 8, 2019*

(*this may be subject to some adjustment, particularly if any further show airdates are established, but the round will last for AT LEAST one year)

The Goal

Once you have signed up and received your Bingo card, your goal is to achieve a Bingo horizontally, vertically, or diagonally by creating fanworks based on the prompts on your card. You can also aim for a Blackout, which would be achieved by creating fanworks for EVERY prompt on your card, as well as other Bingo Extras (TBA).

In order to “win” at Daredevil Bingo, you must achieve at least one Bingo by November 8, 2019. Winners will receive a banner celebrating their achievement and the chance to request an additional card, if desired.

The Prompts

A list of the prompts for this round will be released before sign ups begin. When you sign up, you’ll be given the opportunity to select the prompt categories you wish to see used in the creation of your card (two categories minimum), and the chance to strike up to 10 individual prompts, meaning they will be removed before your card is auto-generated.

The Rules

1. Be respectful. Be nice. YKINMKATO.

2. All types of fanworks are allowed. Fic, art, meta, podfic, mixes, translations, graphics, crafts… if you have an idea, go for it!

3. Every size/length of fanwork is welcome.

3. All fanworks must be centered around Daredevil (Netflix or comics) characters, or characters from the wider Marvel Netflix universe (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, The Defenders).

4. Only newly-posted fanworks may be used for Daredevil Bingo.

5. All fanworks must be finished prior to being used for this challenge.

6. When you’ve completed a work, post it wherever you prefer (tumblr, Ao3, dreamwidth, etc.) If you’d like to see it on the challenge blog, make a tumblr post including and/or linking to the work, and tag it with “daredevil bingo.” (You may also want to @daredevilbingo as well.) The work will be reblogged to the community.

7. Required warnings for this challenge are: Major Character Death, Rape/Noncon, Underage, and Graphic Depictions of Violence. You may also Choose Not to Warn. These warnings should be included on any posts you want to see reblogged to the challenge tumblr.

8. If you’re posting your fanworks to Ao3, please consider adding them to the Daredevil Bingo collection.

One of the, if not the most frequented fan fiction portal on the web. There are currently almost 8,500 Daredevil fanfics in the archive, and the numbers are growing every day. Archive of our Own is often abbreviated as AO3.

FanFiction.net

Another popular fan fiction portal, houses currently close to 900 Daredevil fanfics. Is know to skew towards a younger audience and/or writer community.

Daredevil Kinkmeme

The Daredevil Kinkmeme has been around ever since season 1, and it’s traditionally been very open to any kind of fanfic, not just kink or explicit content. It not only focuses on the Daredevil fandom but also includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, the Punisher and the Defenders (plus crossovers between the shows).

It serves primarily as a place for readers and writers alike to post prompts for stories they’d love to see written, and houses a good number of stories that came out of prompt fills.

If you’re a reader, you’re welcome to peruse the fills posts for stories that have not been crossposted elsewhere. As a writer, you can scroll through the many prompt pages to find something that sparks your interest. Please note that anonymous posting is mandatory on the Daredevil kinkmeme.

Defenders Fanfiction Pillowfort Community

For those with an existing Pillowfort account (or those who want to pay money to get one, since Pillowfort is currently in beta), we have a Pillowfort community for Defenders fan fiction that includes Daredevil and all the other Defenders shows.

Users are free to post prompts, stories, fic recs, beta reader requests and just anything related to Defenders fan fiction.

2018 Daredevil Secret Santa

If you’re all about gift giving experiences and fanfic exchanges, the lovely @katbelleinthedark is running this year’s Daredevil Secret Santa fanfic exchange.

Sign-ups open Oct 29, so if you’d like to be paired with someone you can write a prompt fic for, and get a story for one of your own prompts in exchange, once Christmas rolls around, this may be just the thing for you.

An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works

So, you know… Since I didn’t get a reply from @enthusiasmgirl - and it seems she hasn’t been active on Tumblr in half a year - I took it upon myself to organize this year’s Secret Santa.

Oldschool style, oldschool rules. Three requests - as vague or as detailed as you want - and one offer, you write one fic, you get one fic. We’re here to have fun. :)

Sign-ups start on 29th October and will run till 11th November so you have plenty of time to think about what you would like to read for Christmas this year.

If you sometimes feel like it was pure, ridiculous hubris that you ever started a story that would take so much work and persistence to finish, I promise you, you’re not alone.

If you feel like you’ve already been writing forever and the “good bits” are still ages away, you’re not alone.

If you’ve been stuck for days or weeks or longer because you know what happens later but you don’t know what happens next, you’re not alone.

If you’re desperate to squeal about your beloved OTP but you feel like you can’t, because spoilers, and it’s driving you nuts, you’re not alone.

Dear longfic writers

I fucking live for your work. Like I love me a little one-shot or a medium-length fic but srsly give me that 100k+ (200k? 300k? yes pls) goodness.

I am constantly in awe of your ability to stick with your story, to keep your plot moving and your characters’ relationships developing like just damn.

I don’t judge if your updates are erratic. If you’re worried about too much time passing between updates, just know that I and so many others squeal with joy when we get that subscriber notification in our inboxes.

There is literally nothing more glorious than watching characters develop through a long-ass fic. Relationships, friendships, character growth? Sometimes after I’ve finished a longfic or I’ve gotten to the last update I’ll go back and reread the first couple chapters just to see how far my babies have come.

If you stop updating your fic for whatever reason, that’s okay. We as readers are just lucky to have been graced with your story as long as you chose to write it. You’ve been gifting us with time and effort for this long and we appreciate it.

As someone who has had multiple longfic ideas and either (1) got through two chapters and gave up or (2) was too overwhelmed by how much work it would take to actually write, you are my literal superheroes.

You are brave and persistent and creative and a gift to fandom, and if you ever need a pep talk I am here to love on you.

Hello everyone out there in Daredevil fandom…

I have been talking to a couple of other fans lately, and a lot of the more communal prompt-sharing places where people just squee about the fic and the show have died or just sort of stagnated, unfortunately. But I know that some of you are still very active in the fandom, or actively know writers who are and maybe are looking for a place to call home, and I actually want to write more but just could use people to chat and bounce ideas off of.

Sooooo… group chat of some kind? Or if enough people are interested, a Daredevil Fanfiction Discord group with some different channels for characters or ships or prompt love and such? Basically a chat room where we can just all energize each other and be around to RP or beta or share prompts or collaborate. If there’s no interest, I’ll live, but I suspect that I know quite a few people who are still really into the characters and show and fic and are still fairly active or even new to the fandom. I don’t mind setting it up and modding it.

Appearance 5’8”, slender, Caucasian, brunette, short-ish hair, no make-up, casual dresser, comfy clothes, no frills, no heels. I consider myself pretty average, I don’t stand out in a crowd. 

Personality I’m not even sure where to start. As per HBDI, I’m a 1221, but that probably won’t tell you much. I work mostly on a rational and very little on an emotional level. I don’t like big crowds. I have very little patience for people who can’t seem to get to the point. Most people see me as an extrovert, but I consider myself an outgoing introvert. I’m fond of snark and cheeky remarks, and I can be a potty mouth if I let myself be. 

Ability I’m told I’m pretty good at landscape photography, image editing, webdesign and visual layouting, fabric painting, creative writing, computer geekery, the English language (German is my mother tongue), project management, and Vinyasa yoga.

Hobbies Pretty much the same as those listed in ability, with the addition of board games and tabletop role playing. I love hiking, but I don’t do it often enough. Does catching up with my TV shows and movies count, too?

Experiences Traveling to different foreign countries has opened my eyes in lots of ways, especially to cultural differences and nuances. I consider myself pretty blessed where that’s concerned. 

Some of the really amazing things that have happened in my life are meeting actors that I’m really fond of. I’ve had very special 1:1 up-close-and-personal meetings with Chris Marquette and Peter Outerbridge. You know, the kind that every fan dreams about, where they sit down with them and have a very in-depth, personal conversation. Those were incredible experiences, which I will treasure for the rest of my life. My 2013 Canada vacation was a dream come true in many ways. 

Trying to save the Canadian TV show Bomb Girls back in early 2013 was also a pretty defining time where I learned a lot, and met a lot of really wonderful people. We weren’t successful in the end, but I still look back at it with fond memories and a number of really cool things that came out of it. 

Of course not everything in my life is hunky-dory. I’m struggling with hard to pin down food intolerance issues that have a pretty big impact on my current life. But, you know, you deal with it. Somehow. I have chronic back issues from working a desk job most of my life. You deal with that, too. My dad passed away pretty much overnight in early 2014. That sucked. A lot.

My Life I’m in my early 40’s, so there’s a lot to tell, although most of it is pretty boring. Had a wonderful childhood, great parents, no siblings. Career-wise, also boring. School, molecular biology studies at uni, subsequent career in the pharmaceutical industry. I have an average job, an average apartment, an average car. I have wonderful friends. All in all, I’m pretty happy with where I am right now, and that’s a wonderful thing to be able to say.
