Circus AU (Open Starter)

Pitch sat in his trailer, in front of his vanity desk and mirror. The the bright bulbs around the mirror letting out a low hum. The dark haired man sat there counting out the money his circus had earned from tickets that evening. It had been a rather good night for the ringmaster and his performers, the seats had been packed and the audience had spent a lot of money. It was not often that the circus had such luck. Once Pitch had finished counting out their earnings he heard a knock on the wood door to his caravan. “Come in” he said sternly.

A red headed woman opened the door, dressed in a silk bathrobe over her acrobatic outfit. “There is someone here to see ya Pitch” she said in her thick Irish accent. “What do they want?” Pitch asked as he quickly stored the money away from sight. Fey simply shrugged at him, before gesturing to the said person at her side.

Hallow pressed his fingers against the lining of his cloak. He glanced around the interior of the caravan before his eyes settled on the ringmaster. He bowed his head slightly.

“Good evening...sir.” he said. “I, um...well, the performance was wonderful.”

A smile flickered across his face as he recalled all the wonderful acts he’d watched. Then he remembered the lonely coins left in his money purse after he’d spent his last bills on entry and snacks at the circus. Well worth it, he thought, especially since he had made up his mind to ask about employment.

“I wanted to ask...would you be interested in hiring a magician?”
