There is a LOT of content out there. The book is 500 years old, but it was told in oral tales well before that. Oral stories tend to have many many many different versions. We can find evidence in surviving scrips of plays. One such play has Erlang be one of the pilgrims instead of Pigsy. There are plays where Wukong says he has siblings, comtimes he is a sibling of five and in others he is a sibling of eleven. There’s even a character in India called Hanuman who is very similar to Wukong. They might of been inspired by each other, which is really freaking cool!
The oldest depiction of Wukong on the journey is in a murial, where he actually has what looks to be long hair or a fur of some sort.
With the book being 500 years old and the story being older than that, a lot of people have taken inspiration from it. There are many retellings and people making their own versions of the story. It’s been adapted into every media you can think of. Movies, series, books, graphic novels, comic books, plays, etc. There’s so much to explore!
I hope with this image that I didn’t discourage you from headcanoning Macaque as taller than Wukong. There are plenty of people who take the story/characters and make their own personal touches to it. It’s why stories just like this one has lasted so long, because they evolved over time with people’s different perspectives of it. It’s awesome!
