how do you guys feel about gnosticism? i'm interested to see if the gospel of mary has any weight, but i'm also very skeptical of gnosticism for a lot of reasons, chief of which is the way they talk about the "old testament God".
they believe the world was made by an evil, lesser deity, the demigurge/yaboloth the father of lies. aka the "jealous and bloodthirsty god of the Israelites", and that the real, true God would never create something as corrupt and evil as the earth. christian antisemites also demonize the God described in the old testament and say the God of the new testament is different and more loving. this violates the shema, the cornerstone of judaism (and therefore christianity and islam)--Adonai is God, Adonai is one, and Adonai is love.
secondly, i feel they were written too long after Jesus' time on earth to be reliable. the gnostic gospels were written in the 2nd century, which means that even if those really are the gospels of thomas and mary magdalene, they would've been passed down in a game of telephone for decades after their deaths. i think a lot of people fixate on the gospel of mary because they want so badly for her to be Jesus' wife. what we know is that she was the tower of the church, the visionary while peter was the rock. she can be an important figure without being married to Jesus. maybe she was, maybe she wasn't.
third, and this may be wrong, i feel a lot of it hinges on creationism. i see people saying "we were lied to about the serpent!!" and yes, yes you have, but not in the way you think. you were told it was satan, and now you believe the satan is a serpent with a lion head who made the earth. as a catholic who once practiced judaism (an absolutely wonderful experience 💙) i understand that the serpent was just a serpent. this is a creation myth, ancient people trying to understand the world. likewise, noah and the flood is a retelling of the mesopotamian flood myth. the serpent was just a serpent, and the serpent isn't real.
finally: they. don't. believe. in. the resurrection. they don't believe Jesus' body was even real, just an illusion, because the true God would never put His Son in such a repulsive, evil human body. i like the buddhist elements and emphasis on enlightenment, but that's going too far to me.
what do you guys think? should i give it a try? or is it just a lot of hooplah?
not a day passes where i don't think of this butch mary magdalene painting

i've never asked for prayers before, and i'm really bad at asking for help, but if you guys could please keep me in your thoughts that would mean a lot 💕 i'm disabled and haven't worked in almost a year, and my benefits payments average around $200 a week, which is nowhere near enough to live on. i applied for a job at one of the catholic universities in town (i went to the one up the street that was technically secularized in the 60s) and it seems perfect for me. i don't just need to work, i want to, and i want to be able to serve my community. if you have time in your prayers tonight, would you please keep me in your hearts? thank you so much 🥹

It's pretty funny when conservatives get mad at me for my beliefs and tell me to go read the bible. Like sorry buddy the more I learn about God the more woke I get. May be tough for you to hear but it's the truth
Please keep the Philippines in your prayers!
Our people are fighting against corruption in the government, against contractors who promised to secure us against floods. But the problem wasn't fixed. Floods continue to ravage the country. So our people are protesting. Some protesters have gotten violent.
Please pray that the government will finally listen sooner than later, and that there won't be anymore violence.
just a few queer christian/catholic themed brat album pics for yall to enjoy. i made all of these so if theres any mistakes lmk thats on me lol
There are other emotional factors at play here, but I'm crying over God's love for me. He's an omnipotent being who exists on a different realm of reality, yet, He became human and suffered to save me. Because he loves me. Oh my God.
one of my favorite things to do is use everyone's aramaic names while praying. that's my brother Yeshua!! my Imma Maryam! it feels so intimate to call them by what they were called on earth. and as pope francis reminded us, God is our Abba, and that we should come to Him with the heart of a child
I don't think I could put into words how healing and comforting it is as a disabled person to know that Jesus would never shy away from me.
He'd never abandon me or hate me for my disabilities. He'd hold my hand and sit with me when no one else would.
You can't claim to follow Jesus and hate disabled folk (that includes being against free healthcare).
