AHHHHHHH FUCK ME THE FUCK UP
An idea popped into my head, and it made me delightfully happy.
A cute little G-rated Bouquet fic under the cut

Sometimes I think that maybe Harry naming his children after two of the most flawed and morally dubious characters in the whole series was meant as an indicator of Harryâs own flaws â outrageous loyalty and black and white morality.Â
Harry has the most fucked up childhood yo. And due to that childhood, the expectations placed upon him by pretty much everyone, and Dumbledoreâs interference, Harry develops his âhero complex.â Harry learns to identify morality in terms of heroics â a true Gryffindor indeed. Harry wants so much to believe that what he did was right, that the sacrifices others made for him were valid, that he cocoons himself in a fantasy world where the smallest of good deeds can redeem you.Â
Maybe JK Rowling didnât fuck up as bad as we like to think.Â
Maybe Harry naming his kid after two corrupted puppet masters was absolutely and utterly in character.Â
Maybe Harry is so desperate to not hate himself for anything less than true-red-and-gold brave he ever did that heâs convinced himself heroism is the ultimate good. And by extension he is the ultimate good. And Dumbledore and Snape were the ultimate good. Because the died in grand flourishes and left behind mysteries. Just like his parents did.Â
Harry isnât ungrateful to Hagrid or Remus or Tonks or Molly or Arthur or Fred. They simply donât fit the showy model Harry was conditioned to accept in terms of greatness.Â
Because there is a little truth to Harryâs insolence. To his belief that he is an exception to the rule. And itâs not his fault. It never was. He was groomed and led down a path of exceptionalism. So he rewards the exceptional. the exceptions. Snape. And Dumbledore. And James. And Lily. And Luna. And Sirius. The outlandish and the bold and sentimentally heroic.Â
What Harry forgets is that the ordinary can be just as exceptional. Just as heroic. Just as good.Â
yes! we always thought this too. Â the name jokes are funny and all, but it made total sense in context of Harryâs character to us.
I agree with this.  (And Iâd even add that, with Snape especially, he is blinded by his love for his parents that anyone connected to Lily is immediately in his good books.)  But I ALSO think that Albus Severus (obligatory lol) is the name that matters so much because it represents the end of Harryâs story.
Harry is the victim of a lot of mistreatment and hatred from the very first chapter to the end, and even at Hogwarts, the hero-worshipping comes at a price. Â His foilsâVoldemort and Snapeâspend their time at Hogwarts loved by all or hated by all, while Harry gets both the love and the hate. Â Voldemort manipulates, heâs selfish. Â Snape bullies, heâs spiteful. Â Harry is defined by how much he diverges from these two paths, though he could easily have become either of his enemies. Â Unlike Voldemort, heâs selfless, and unlike Snape, he forgives.
Athough he and Harry have very little in common,Dumbledore is another foil.  They are both the Heroes.  But Dumbledoreâs heroism is cold and calculating, he sacrifices othersâeven in death, he sacrifices Snapeâs âsoul.â  If Dumbledore is âGodâ then Harry is the martyr.
What does this mean for Harryâs character development, though? Â DH is punctuated with turning points, moments of forgiveness. Â PS/SS begins with Harry being abused by the Dursleys, and DH begins with Harry forgiving Dudley, and doesnât seem to harbor any anger at the rest of the Dursleys, only caring about their safety. Â He lets go. Â This is how Harry moves on.
Harry obsesses over Dumbledoreâs dirty secrets in DH, but in choosing to go after the Horcruxes instead of the Hallows, he moves past his feelings of betrayal.
Before Voldemortâs death, he sees him for what he is and doesnât feel hatred, but pity. Â He shows him compassion.
I think that, while there is definitely some hero-worshiping happening, Harry does realize that Snape and Dumbledore were wrong.  But heâs spent so much of his youth angry and mistrustful.  Honoring these two, his bully and his puppeteer, represents not only Harryâs forgiveness, but that heâs made peace with his suffering.  Heâs made peace with his doubts about his father and Sirius being bullies, too.  (Lily Luna is differentâwhile James Sirius is named after Harryâs father figures, and Albus Severus after his heroes, Lily is named after the two characters in the books who represent Harryâs ideal of selfless love.)
Thematically, naming his son after these two characters who were so stuck living in the past, implies a future where Harryâs learned from their mistakes. Â Unlike Dumbledore or Snape, Harry really lives.
But at the same time, you donât see Ron or Hermione worshiping Snape or Dumbledoreâs âthis is all Harry, and this is how heâs always been. Â He doesnât HAVE to forgive or admire themâbut of course he does because heâs Harry. Â The names are SO not saying âTHESE are the most important characters to Harry Potter and also the best people in the book fuck you Remus.â Â The names reveal all those things OP said about Harryâs flawed views of heroism, and they further symbolize the resolution to a life of pain for a hero whose scar is just a scar now, whose only superpower was living and forgiving.

narcissa malfoy was probably the most powerful occlumens in hogwarts history and nobody knew
she literally stood up to lord voldemort and lied that harry potter was dead and i donât know about you but if i were an evil ruler i would probably want to triple-check that my nemesis was, you know, actually deceased
voldemort had actual doubts about snape
narcissa swans on by without a whisper, without a second glance
narcissa malfoy understood from a young age that she was meant to do only a few things: look pretty, say nothing, and marry well.Â
narcissa malfoy understood those rules, and she layered her mind with them.Â
look pretty. wear the most expensive robes. grandmotherâs pearls. curl your hair every night. think only of clothes and dimples and the way your hair falls when you flutters you eyelashes at a boy.Â
say nothing. donât speak when mother and father are screaming at each other. demurely look down as another boy asks you to dance. retreat into the reading room when your family friends, known death eaters and criminals, pay your parents a visit and speak in hushed voices over tea. think of pretty things.Â
marry well. marry into a family of your parentsâ friends. bear children. wear pearls and look demure and think of nothing but pretty, pretty things, like the way your husbandâs hair gleams in candlelight.Â
masters must learn the rules before they can break them. narcissa learned the rules so well that they wrapped around her; sank into her skin and her mind. they protect her from enemies. they conceal the quick, strategic plots ticking her brain into gear every moment of every day. they hide the calculation of each smile, each movement.Â
narcissa is so good, so perfect, that no one will ever know. Â
#look like the flower but be the serpent underneath
# I actually have lots of thoughts about this # I think she got away with lying so easily because Voldemort would never have expected her to # I donât think she even needed to use occlumency # because why would /some silly women/ # /Luciusâ wife/ # ever lie to /The Dark Lord/? # she wouldnât be smart enough # she wouldnât be brave enough # she wouldnât be selfless enough # Voldemort is an absolute idiot when it comes to the things that really matter # âHouselves childrenâs tales love loyalty innocenceâ
#voldy was shocked when he found out his mom was the witch #he assumed his father would be magical
and there you have it.
rb again for that meta, damn
Not only was this one of the most badass moments of the books, but it was genuinely surprising without being some Random Shit Out Of Fucking Nowhere that some authors/scriptwriters think is all there is to being surprising/shocking.
Because it makes perfect sense. Of course Narcissa would turn on Voldemort without a second thought to protect her son. Not only because sheâs his mother, but because thatâs how Voldemort was defeated the first time around, and Voldemort cannot change or learn. 1980â˛s Voldemort was defeated because of a motherâs love, Lilyâs sacrifice for Harry. Lily was not considered important to Voldemort, only James and Harry were. Voldemort was even willing to spare her for Snape, if she didnât put up a fight (which of course she did). To him, Lily was irrelevant, because she was a woman and Muggle-born. Voldemort underestimated her, and it cost him. So naturally he would do the same thing again in the 90â˛s, focusing on Harry and the prophecy, never considering the thing that defeated him before might do so again. He was wary of Lucius and Draco, but underestimated Narcissa and it lead directly to his defeat. And she KNEW he did, and used it to her advantage.
This short-sightedness is even reflected in his most ardent supporter Bellatrix, who was also killed by a furious mother protecting her child.
A motherâs love started the series, and a motherâs love ended it.
A motherâs love started the series, and a motherâs love ended it.
YES.
âMy god,â Thomas said as he wrinkled his nose at the burning smell. âAlexander, what is that smell?â
âShit!â
âSmells like it, yes.â

Alex roamed the mansion, searching for any clues as to what he could do to surprise Thomas. Heâd already gotten a couple of gifts for him, but he wanted to do one more thing. Something heâd never done before. Something Thomas wouldnât expect him to do. He went from the study to the music room to the library and the bedroom before he got to the kitchen, frowning deeply as he searched the fridge for something to give him an idea. Maybe food could trigger an idea in his head. He wasnât that great at cooking, but surely, he could follow a recipe. It was simple mathematics and science, right? Get the measurements right and follow directions. He could do that.
Just when he was beginning to get frustrated with himself, he spotted it. There. In the crisper. Cheese. The finest French cheese, of course, since Thomas insisted on nothing less than the very best in everything, after all. Okay. He could do something with that. Cheese was pretty versatile.
He took it out of the fridge and put it on the dark marble countertop before going to the cabinet and opening it. There it was. The antique noodle press that Thomas had bought on a business trip just because he could. Thomas was an expert with it, but Alex had never used it. But really, how hard could it be? He could figure out how to establish a national bank, he could certainly figure out how to use a noodle press to make some macaroni. Right? Feeling rather hopeful, Alex grabbed Thomasâs recipe for macaroni noodles and read it.
