riley had spent his whole life feeling out of place , even when surrounded by his family. NOW ; it all made sense but it was still a lot to get his head around. every memory now felt tainted by what he hadn't known. he knows if his dad was still here , he'd be telling him to focus on the positives. that was always harvey's way. it's nice. having a brother. A BIT WEIRD ; sure , but he wouldn't change it. sure , there were somethings he wishes he could go back and fix. one being that luka hadn't grown up safe and loved like he had ( and riley hated that , hated that his younger brother had to suffer ).
"honestly , not sure how much weirder things can get." a rough chuckle leaves the former hockey player as he reaches down to brush fingers through lucky's fur. lucky had gotten used to luka , even if he still did a double take here and there when seeing them in the same room ( riley had to admit that sometimes when he looked at luka's face , it was a bit eerie. like seeing himself in the mirror ).
when luka speaks , there's this tiny bit of guilt inside riley that only seems to grow. "you should have had that chance too , y'know that right? what happened to you wasn't fair. if i could go back and change that , i would. i get what you're saying - and i appreciate it but....i really wish things had been different for you."
