Can we talk about this.  This is probably the biggest apology Jack’s ever made.

He knows he hurt Ianto by running off (without telling him either) and that he found happiness (by meeting up with the Doctor again) while Ianto suffered alone.

It’s not a “sorry” or “please forgive me”. It’s asking Ianto out on a date. That’s how Jack rolls.

And Ianto’s still not happy with him even though he is happy he’s back, add to that a past lover of Jack’s just randomly shows up and swoops him away, but he sasses through it because sass is his armor. Sass is what he has. Sass protects him. (wait. wrong fandom reference)

But did you see how fast Ianto answered “yes” to that? Even though he’s hurt and knows he’ll be hurt again and again, he keeps trucking. Ianto ships this ship and is what makes and keeps this ship above water.

And Jack came back for Ianto. Jack could have went on to travel the many planets and stars with the Doctor but he came back because of Ianto (and the team). He could’ve easily rejoined John Hart on his offer and went on their merry little charades but Jack wanted John Hart gone because he’s a disruption of their peace. His peace with Ianto. 

This ship is the best ship to sail the seven seas.

“Harkness! Why am I not surprised to see you up and at it? Me … well, you know. Been around the block a few times, got myself in some trouble. The works.”

“What, you don’t believe that I’m just too charming to kick it?” He smiles brightly before it dulled to a frown. “I heard what happened to you.. on the train. I didn’t know you survived that. It’s good to see you again.”

“I fuckin’ look ok?” Clint growls but there’s no real heat in the words. He initially shies away from the brunet’s touch but lets him show him to the nearest chair in the end. The assassin hadn’t slept in about 48 hours, had been stuck in stupid meetings all day, the the worst headache ever (too much caffeine not enough water), and the cold snap was making his knee cranky. 

“Nothin’ other then the usual,” he sighs, running his hands over his face.

“You look like a hot mess.” Jack agreed apologetically, hate to see him so exhausted and in pain as he was. “But still hot.” He flashes a grin in his direction before leaning down to press a silent kiss to the top of his head. “Hang tight. I’ll go get you some water.”

“Just because I never did doesn’t mean I can’t. You remember what it was like during the war. Most of us were focused on surviving or keeping the men around us from dying.” He was still surprised to see Jack walking, talking and looking just like he had when they’d met back during the war. And he avoided the question, too, which only had Steve more suspicious. He could blame DC for all of that. “Never heard of Torchwood and you’re avoiding the question, Harkness. I’m holding up just fine. Team keeps me busy and there’s always someone to fight.”

“Hey, as I remember, you were careful not to swear when you’re off the battle field.” Jack didn’t really care to think about those men they’d lost, even when Steve was a Captain on land and he was.. well, a Captain of.. air ops. “Aliens. Torchwood deals with aliens.” The fact that Steve had never heard of Torchwood was a good thing. People weren’t supposed to be privy to the existence of it and Jack aimed to keep it that way. “You know, I might’ve shed a few tears when I heard the plane you were on went down. Still fighting for the common good, huh? Thought you’d be retired by now?” He looked at Steve with a vexed smile.

“Jack? Captain Jack Harkness? You son of a bitch. What are you doing in New York? Actually, how the hell are you still breathing?”

“I don’t think any of us had heard you swear before. ‘Feels good, y’know. I’m in town on official business. Torchwood.” He extended a hand as a greeting. “I’d say I’d ask you the same thing but your story’s kind of all over the media. It’s definitely good to see you again, Steve. How are you holding up?”
