i KNOW its the intention for the character but sometimes jack's lines sound so unbelievably fake (specifically when he's giving orders) that i just say out loud "want to try that delivery again, john? no? that's the take we're going with? alright then"

John's delivery is always as if he's in an enormous theater and he's projecting for the back row. I mean, he is a theater performer, so, y'know, it says right there on the tin.

And for the character, especially as originally cast as a smarmy conman, that works. And I'm sure RTD was just standing there, just encouraging the heck out of him the whole time. Go bigger, John! Give us all you got!

It does take some getting used to though. At first, I was actually a little bit offended, because he's the only person in the whole cast with an American accent, so I was like, oh it's just playing into the loud, obnoxious American stereotype. Except... it wasn't that. Like, at all. Jack got this amazing backstory, and all this amazing development, and through it all, just belting his Jackness to the rafters.

I just rewatched Revolution of the Daleks, and was like... oh yeah, that's 100% Jack. And I wondered, what do newer fans, who maybe never saw him back in RTD's era or in Torchwood... what do they think of him? I dread to think... But I also don't care
