Hey!
I’m learning Korean and I like Korean dramas, so I started a blog to share that interest. I plan to make vocabulary lists based on dramas I watch to help me remember new words, and maybe I’ll even translate some of the songs of the OST.
Here’s my top five dramas:

hi amber!!! feel free to disregard if you want but i saw you refer to yourself as unni a few posts ago and it got me wondering - how do trans & queer koreans navigate language, especially gendered honorifics etc? i’m not korean but my mother tongue has similar gendered everyday language & i go by they/them in the english-speaking country where i live (for ease mostly) - but i still wrestle a lot with the tension there. (i also study linguistics and love how queer language can be so playful, >
> & it makes me sad that cultural imperialism means that - at least on the internet - we borrow queer language from the us at the expense of our mother tongues.) obviously don’t worry if this is too personal or just don’t wanna talk about it but it’s something i think about a lot - how trans/gnc/queer people around the world play with and redefine language, esp in diaspora - and i really vibe with your writing and opinions. sorry if this is a bit jumbled!! sending love! <3
i can't speak for anyone else but for me, i'm not a woman but when i am caring for a younger woman i am an unni. honorifics are relational always. i've seen gay men refer to themself as an unni or noona of other people and younger women in general have been using hyung for older men because of the romantic connotations around the word oppa (which is annoying for lots of ppl who have nothing else to call their actual older brother). i would assume that queer people in korea who try to be straight/cis passing just use normative honorifics and make individual decisions on what to be called by indiv people depending on their relationship. a rly nice part about korean culture is that as soon as u meet someone u do hoching jungli/호칭 정리 which is like organizing language? the equivalent of introducing urself and ur pronouns, u say like what ur position is relative to the other person (usually age) and u decide on what to call each other.
the other stuff u talk about like how playful queer language is, that's rly one of my fave topics and i wish i had more info to offer u about how it works in korean! it's just that i'm bad at keeping up with korean online slang cuz it changes so fast and my reading is a little slow.
I've also seen on tiktok some people putting their pronouns in their bios by writing 형/오빠 or 누나/언니 inspired by people putting he/him, she/her, they/them etc in bios. obviously this is online and not in person but that little bit its cool to see more korean tiktokers using it, and it also spreading to other sites as well

for right now, i am using the Soo and Carrots Grammar Textbook to learn Korean grammar, and I think it's going well.
가다 means to go, 오다 means to come. They are both used with 에 to show the direction/destination. In this situation, it is translated as "to". For example:
언니가 오늘 학교에 와요. My sister comes to school today.
지금 집에서 가요. Im going home now.
록시 씨는 도서관에 가요. Ruxi goes to the library.

Today i'm gonna talk about one my top 3 favorites korean actors. No suspens here are the nominates : Hyun Bin - Gong yoo - Choi Jin Hyeok
I'll start with Hyun Bin !
Discovered in A Millionaire's First Love, it was immediately something in my heart. But it's in Secret garden that he definitely stole my heart. Beyond his physical beauty (of which I will not speak more), I was quite bluffed at the time of the way he knew how to play at the same time a man in a man's body then a woman in a man's body, impressive. His talent continued to impress me in Hyde, Jekyll and I, where once again he plays a multifaceted role.
After that I realized that I had already seen him in something else: My Lovely Sam-Soon, but for it did not mark me more than that. He is not a speed ruiner in terms of movies or drama, but I fell in love with his acting and I enjoyed all his dramas and movies since then. I really like the way he is able to create these multiple facets. Like in Crash Landing on You, the son , the military , the friend and the lover facets, incredibly talented.
That's for all these reasons and more, that he is one of my favorite korean actor.
I need to give you a warning as your girlfriend. I’m going to share everything that’s yours. Your sadness, delight, happiness, despair. Everything. So… don’t hide because things are tough. Make sure to leave my share. If you don’t lean on me, I’ll be lonely.
