Dutch rabbits living on Skomer Island, Wales. Their burrows are used by nesting Manx Shearwaters and Puffins :)
Puffins, Skomer Island, Wales. 6,000 breeding pairs.
Puffins Fratercula arctica galore, Skomer Island, Wales. 6,000 breeding pairs on Skomer.
European Storm Petrel Hydrobates pelagicus ringing in the depth of night! Breeding colony on Skomer Island, Wales.
Manx Shearwaters Puffinus puffinus and chick. Ringing project of nesting birds on Skomer Island, Wales. Manx Shearwater come out to play at night :) Up to 120,000 breeding pairs on Skomer! The sounds were haunting at night!
Interestingly, they head for their winter quarters off the coast of southern Brazil and Argentina, and ringing studies on Skomer show that some of the young make this 6000 – 7000 mile journey in less than a fortnight!
