title sequence - white rabbit
Our production is a contempary teen drama in the style of skins, the tone of this drama is urban, modern and gritty with elements of black humour. Focusing on the ups and downs of a certain 17 year old individual. All characters are from broken families and are all living in foster care. Hes trying to get a sense of his own identity however is getting dragged under by everyone else.
Jack is a chain smoker who uses a music as a way to escape from his dull lifestyle and hes a fundamentally artistic creative individual that has no way of finding an outlet for his creativity. Therefore he vandalises, graffitis and generally roams around not reaching his full potential.
Our target audiences is for ages around 15 – 22 however we want it to be enjoyed by all ages but our focus is for young adults as they can relate.
Least Favourite TV/Film Logo/Idenitity
Peace Arch Entertainment
What does it look like?
Can you suggest why it has been designed the way it has?
What do you think it represents?
What do you think of it, and why?
I chose 'Peace Arch' as my choice of least favourite film logo/idenitity as I feel it severely lacks personality and character.
The logo is a simple arch on top of the text 'Peace Arch Entertainment' the 'A' forming a line around the text for no reason, but for possible effect? The colour tones consist of greys and blacks.
'PeaceArch Entertainment is an Canadian Stop Motion and TV production company, based in Canada but with offices based in America such as LA. The bridge possibly represents the open door and links that America has with Canada; a peaceful cooperation. Knowing the
Mop up the first
Three important things I have learnt this year:
How to use Premier Pro, when I first started the course I had no clue how to edit or how to even set up an editing programme; now I feel confident to do a basic edit.
It's okay not to be okay! Stressing out over not having an idea, not knowing how to set something up, something not going to plan - instead of stressing out and feeling knocked down by these things, I have learnt that its fine that these things happen and that there is always a way round things. In things such as film making, nothing ever go perfectly, depending on things such as equipment and technology will inevitable lead to break downs sometimes and thats okay!
How to use a camera, sounds silly but with cameras getting more and more complicated by the upgrade I had no clue that there were so many buttons and formats on Camera's! I feel confident in smaller cameras such as an A1E and a Z1E camera.
Three important things I want to develop:
Being up to date with my blog work! As simple as that. I know that I naturally work better if i know there is a deadline coming and thrive under pressure, therefore I may challenge myself 'mock deadlines' so that I get things done in time and with ease.
Confidence with editing, although I understand how to edit, I want to be able to feel that I can edit anything to a standard which is good enough for a university portfolio.
Coming up with innovative ideas and feeling confident with creating them myself!
Favourite Moment in the first year:
In general being able to spend my first year with lovely people and an enjoyable course, simple and soppy response!
What do I want to do after the course finishes?
I am not entirely sure, I want to do something within the media but straying away from the film side as i feel that is not my strength. I am looking at courses along the lines of 'broadcast media' , 'communications' or 'media and culture' I dont want to make my course to narrow so that it limits my options when I leave university but at the same time I don't want it to be too broad and something which I may regret doing in the future. Alternatively I am looking into a 'gap year' or going straight into employment if I can, I just want to do something I enjoy and make a career out of that.
College worth ethic:
I don't use my time wisely, which is something which I have yet to improve on. I don't space my time out so I cannot tell you that I spend a certain fixed time a week on college work. I may spend a week not doing any at home but then the following week spend a whole day dedicated to college work. I have a job alongside my college work but I try to balance both out as well as possible, alongside a social life. I will always get my work done to the best standard I can before the deadline, I just don't do it in the most productive time frame.
Three promises to myself:
Use my time more wisely.
Look into future career prospects and university courses and try my best to get an idea into what I want to do, but do not fret if I still don't know.
Make the most of my time in college, both with the work and with the people and the opportunities that college brings.
Describe yourself:
I would describe myself as a confidence, enthusiastic and bubbly individual with a good sense of humour; grabbing any opportunity with both hands. Works well with people and the ability to manage a team.
Shot list for ending
Do all films 'end'?
All films naturally come to an end but do they actually come to an end or does it leave us as the audience hanging?
There are many alternative ways to end a film which film makers use:
Suspense/Cliffhanger
This is where the films doesn't come to a natural end and leaves the audience filled with suspense and questions to what has happened. This is usually done just as you are about to have a key question answered - the pinnacle moment of the film.
A good example of a cliff hanger would be from Back to the Future 2 when Marty Mcfly after being sent back to the future, comes back from the future.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRxOZqu0arU
After visiting 2015, Marty McFly must repeat his visit to 1955 to prevent disastrous changes to 1985, without interfering with his first trip. This done extremely with a long shot of 'Doc' running down the street between the flames after the successful time travel back; to then a shot of Marty running down the street which already leads the audience to question why Marty is back before he even make the statement which leads too the cliffhanger: 'I know I know, you did send me back. I'm back from the future.' Ending with a close up shot of Docs infamous line 'Great scott' Panning out to a landscape shot with the words 'to be concluded' in back to the future style writing across the screen.
I think this works a brilliant cliffhanger as it ends in true back to the future style and leaves the audience with many questions. Cliffhangers can have the potential to lead to an anti climax as it brings the audience to too many questions and they leave the film feeling unsatisfied with the film.
A Shock/Jolt
A shock ending is an ending which works particularly well with audiences as it doesn't leave them dissapointed nor does it leave them with too many questions. Often the shock consists of the main character - the protagonist - as the theme of most film endings is that they on a positive note so a negative note often comes as a shock.
A good example of a film which ends with a shocking twist would be fight club:
Synopsis: 'An insomniac office worker and a devil-may-care soap maker form an underground fight club that transforms into a violent revolution' (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0137523/)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVof0qj7SOw
Fight club ends with the shock realisation that Brad Pitt and Ed Nortons characters are in fact the same person. This is a twist which is totally unexpected and one which definitely shocks the audience. Ending with a long shot of Nortons character holdings hands with Helen Bonham Carter watching the buildings from the window crash and fall down in front of them , leaving the audience time to digest the shock that has just been handed to them.
