The Song My Mother Sang | Und der Rhein fließt
An old man in Düsseldorf, Germany, records his voice on tapes in the end of his life. He speaks of home — his father, mother and the landscape he grew up in. Reflecting on a life gone past he talks about what most shaped him.
The filmic impressions of home and the journey there together with the long passed story told by the old man’s voice create a new layer of narrative in-between times and places. Through the interrelations of the three narratives — journey, landscape and family — the film opens up a personal story to a collectively graspable experience of going home.
A film project by Hanna Schrage and Bella Riza
