Killing has always been one of Hannibal’s most enjoyable interests.
He has gone through so many different variations of bringing death to those he thinks don’t deserve life that it can be quite hard to find a new way to enjoy his favorite hobby.
Especially after a hundred and twelve years.
Which is why he decides to become a consultant for the FBI on the “Sleeping Beauty” case.
Three men, all of various ages, are already did when he begins to help and immediately picks out the profile of their killer. He is afraid to approach the men he finds attractive so he follows them home and murders them while they sleep to cut off the means of rejection.
The method is of course quite sentimental.
However, when the fourth man is found things are different.
Neighbors see someone break into his home late one evening and call the police who come just as “Sleeping Beauty” is in the midst of killing him. They find the victim and his would be killer on the floor, which means he fought back quite well and the paramedics rush number four to the hospital.
The doctors think he will not survive the night.
Hannibal goes to the hospital with Jack Crawford who reads off the injuries he suffered and Hannibal walks up to the bed unable to stop himself.
Will Graham is the most handsome of the “Sleeping Beauty” victims, and Hannibal knows as he stares down at him that this one will be his.
“His survival instincts were fierce,” Hannibal murmurs, taking Will’s hand.
Jack sighs. “It wasn’t enough.”
Hannibal sets Will’s hand down onto the hospital bed.
“Some people aren’t meant for this world.”
“Then I hope he has a better time in the next one.”
Hannibal smiles. “Yes, let’s hope so.”
Jack walks him out, murmuring about the good job he’d done on the case and that he mustn’t blame himself.
Hannibal doesn’t blame himself but nods sagely as they step inside the elevator. He puts a hand to his front pocket.
“Oh I seem to have dropped something. I will meet you downstairs, Jack.”
He waits for the doors to close and goes back to Will’s room. The sound of the machines keeping him alive make Hannibal’s lip curl as he stands in the doorway.
“It will not be long, Will. There are steps to be taken in order to succeed.”
The cameras will not be able to see him here, not when Jack was with him nor now that he’s alone. A malfunction of the camera, they’ll say. He’s used this to his advantage many times.
Now for the first time he will use it to give life rather than take it.
Will’s blood is ambrosia from the gods and makes him shudder visibly while he quickly drains him. The machines do not go off, not yet, and when he pulls back the slowness of his heartbeat is dangerously close enough to warrant attention.
Hannibal gives Will just enough of his blood, a bare trickle, and watches as the life goes out of him.
He’s gone before the doctors burst into the room.
Jack is there to greet him with the terrible news when the elevator doors open.
Hannibal inwardly rejoices.
“Justice will at least give reason for his untimely end.”
Jack shakes his head. “I have to…”
“No, go,” Hannibal says, “It’s quite alright.”
He heads out the front doors of the hospital and tries to keep the smile off his face.
Will is going to live again before the night is through, and Hannibal plans on giving him everything he’s ever wanted.
He just knows they’re meant to be together.
The hours trickle by and he waits what he feels is enough time before heading back to the scene of his latest victim. No one seems to notice him as he heads in the door, nor do they question him.
Hannibal is rather good at being an invisible man.
He looks as if he belongs here, lab coat and all, which make it that much easier for him to step inside the morgue.
There are only two men attending to the bodies and both are quite easy to kill.
Hannibal finds Will newly put fresh on the slab.
Even in death he’s the most beautiful man Hannibal has ever seen.
He bites into his wrist and presses it to Will’s mouth.
Mere moments later he feels teeth bite into his vein and a bloody tear falls down his cheek when Will opens his red eyes for the very first time.
“Hello, Will. It’s very nice to meet you.”
