My name is Mason, and I’m trans, and very excited that I’m in the position to be having the first round of my gender affirmation surgery in early October of this year! But, to be able to realise this dream, I need some help!
Click here, to donate to my surgery fund!
For several years now, I’ve been wanting this surgery, and as my transition has progressed through HRT and social transition, my need for this surgery has become more acute. The mental and emotional strain of waiting for this treatment takes a toll on all other areas of my life, affecting my ability to socialise, to make progress on my personal goals, even on my ability to write. The stress makes my current situation unbearable, but any little bit of assistance will help, and I’m grateful for everyone who is kind enough to help me in this difficult time.
In order to afford the surgery, as well as the recommended six weeks recovery time, I need to raise around 3500 dollars. This will cover the surgeon’s fee, the anaesthetist, hospital excess costs for two nights in hospital, and the cost of a surgical assistant, as well as giving me some peace of mind as I recover afterwards, as I will not be able to work at my day job which involves heavy physical exertion and lifting.
How you can help!
In early 2014 I discovered NBC’s Hannibal and, of course, the Fannibals, and it was at a crucial time for me. I was in my third year of university and so ill and depressed that I could barely drag myself out of bed to write.
Involvement in the Hannibal fandom, through RP and writing fanfic got me through a very difficult time, and helped inspire me through my undergrad degree and into my thesis year, which I (surprise, surprise) wrote about Hannibal, and I had the opportunity to go to Melbourne to give a presentation at the Feasting on Hannibal academic conference.
I know times are tough, but if you’re not able to donate financially, I would really appreciate if you could reblog this post so that as many people as possible can see it!
I’ve made so many friends through fandom, the community and camaraderie of this fandom has been a joy to be a part of, even during this indefinite HeAteUs. The creativity and enthusiasm of this fandom is incredible.
Thank you,
Mason
