Last time I did favorites from my Janeway/Chakotay fics. This time I’m going to honor @sophia-helix‘s last six years of fannishness or so and do favorite m/m slash fics I’ve written.
5 Times John and Dorian Didn't Take Their Relationship to the Next Level (And What Happened When They Did) (4,206 words, Explicit, Almost Human)
John Kennex can’t be into his partner, his dude robot partner okay, except that doesn’t change that he totally he is.
I loved this show and these characters so much that it makes sense this fic would be a favorite of mine. The show was already over when @liminal-zone (gave me a an open pairing prompt and this just poured out in response. John Kennex (the human) is so emotionally closed off and Dorian(the android) is so the opposite and I just really loved imagining John slowly lowering those sky high walls a little, bit by bit. Because, he does care for Dorian, even if recognizing that would freak him out. I also really liked the philosophical aspect around androids and consent I touched on here; because, it is one of those things that I know I would have questions about if I was in this situation.
Bathroom Tile (956 words, Explicit, Veronica Mars)
Logan and Weevil run into each other in the bathroom at the high school reunion.
So I went back and forth about whether to include this one (or else I wrote for @jaqofspades from a different fandom altogether) but in the end I had to include Logan/Weevil; because, they were my first M/M OTP and I love them. Somehow the big ship manifesto fic that lives in my heart never made it into words on the screen, so I had to choose between this very short piece and one that’s overly talky and vague (or you know a multiship fic) and I picked this one because, while it is short, I feel like it cuts right to the heart of Logan and Weevil and their “deal” so to speak. For all their mutual aggression, these two understand each other.. hell maybe that’s where most of the aggression comes from. Plus there’s a frantic hotness here.
Closing In (5,347 words, Explicit, Baseball RPF)
Ryan Vogelsong has never been the star, but he does seem to have some sort of pull on those who are.
I would never have written this fic for @sophia-helix if it hasn’t been for a random photo of Posey and Vogelsong talking on the mound that just looked really intimate for whatever reason and we used to reblog every Vogelsong start. I wrote this fic for her, completely, but it actually turned out really well formed and nuanced I think and I love this version of Vogey who lives in my head now, with all his routines and his forced disciplined reflection, all the frustration and disappointment tightly schooled into line. This is definitely a fic that stands outside its context just fine on its own. It’s also probably one of the more actually romantic of my slash fics ultimately.
On the Unintended Consequences of Furycrafting and Unaddressed Personal Issues (2,354 words, Explicit, Codex Alera)
Crassus has always wanted Max’s attention.
I wrote two fics for this series, both for fic exchanges, but I really liked how they came out. This one explores the tension between Max and Crassus (warning: incest between half brothers) and how they both care too much about and misread each other but also how they are finally able to start to move forward from their messed up family origins in their own way. These two fit my general pattern for incest ships, which is that the family has to be sufficiently dysfunctional to cause the kind of intense and unorthodox connection that would never happen in the normal ones weren’t somehow broken from the start. Anyway, this story is emotive, and (I think) hot, and ultimately somewhat redemptive.
Eleven Years' Time (5,914 words, Explicit, Journeyman)
Dan manages to make things even more complicated with Jack.
I was matched on a completely different fandom for yuletide the year I wrote this, but I looked at my recipient’s request it and it was really evident that their perennial request for this fic in a fandom I hadn’t watched was in my wheelhouse and probably not most other people’s (once again, incest between brothers). So I watched the show and I wrote this fic and I am really happy with how it turned out (also it helped me get over my major fic writing hiatus). The Vasser brothers are just so intense with each other and the Dan marrying Jack’s ex girlfriend and Jack’s feelings of responsibility for Dan but also their mutual judgement of each other and, of course, that messed up family background.
