perhaps he was blessed for having the ability to sympathize, to feel the pain of others that stood before him. however, it would be a lie on his part to say that he was unprejudiced — being a shinobi naturally meant carrying biased views & most importantly, meant knowing when and where to abandon any sentiments that threatened the purpose of their job : : to kill. but even knowing this fact, he still held this ability ( to feel — to feel apologetic ) as a treasure — as something to be proud of.
so when he felt that tug, that feeling of quiet remorse for the man, he didn’t hide away from it. he embraced it.
❝ pleasure, huh ? well, sorry that killing’s all you got. ❞
"Sorry? What reason do you have to pity me? A shinobi is a weapon, forged in the fires of combat. In the very rules that we supposedly follow, a shinobi is not meant to express emotions. If anyone is going to feel sorry, I feel sorry for you, that you cannot reach your potential and are held back by such pointless feelings."
