REALITY STILL REFUSED to sink in and grant her the relief she had been aching for. One of the people she had been begging, pleading, praying to see was actually right there before her. He was in such close proximity that it threatened to suffocate her. It was only when she choked out a small gasp did she realize she also forgot to breathe. Rubbing her lips together uncomfortably, she lifted her head to gaze at him through salty tears. She blinked a few times to try to clear her vision, only making it worse. ❝Please don’t leave me.❞ She quietly whimpered out when he spoke to her. She wouldn’t be lonely anymore, huh..? She hoped he truly meant that.
He was so up and down, hearing the word dumbass roll off his tongue made her snap.

When he hadn’t been sure of her whereabouts or even if she was alive, he found himself missing even being yelled at. It was an admittedly pathetic attempt at holding onto every memory, every familiarity, if only to get him through her absence. Kagome had been the first person to speak honestly to him, even if it had been because of his own pettiness or just miscommunication, and that alone was one of the many things she’d done to change his life. He’d spend his “off” days in seclusion by the well, half expecting, half hoping she’d turn up one day to chide him for being needlessly cold to their friends, or something like that. It was strange to admit, honestly, seeing as their arguments had so often left them both in bad, uncompromising moods in the past, but the three years of her missing had him pining for anything related to her.
He realized now that was stupid, really stupid.
It wasn’t as though he ever wanted to genuinely upset her, and one would think that after spending so long together, he’d be able to pick up on emotional cues or know when and where to say (or not say) what. That would be woefully incorrect to assume, though. The fact that the pair had been apart for so long was hardly a factor as Inuyasha was very well able to step back into their usual banter. The problem lied more in the fact that he was just, in the plainest terms, incompetent. Abysmal; hopeless, even. Inuyasha had never been particularly adept at reading situations, those pertaining to "feelings” especially, and Kagome was often the biggest mystery to him. She felt and expressed emotion as intensely as he did, but she was also just as difficult to read; at times, she would either coldly shrug off his insensitive demeanour or just take it in stride, but there were other instances where she’d also blow up at him, all seemingly undeserved and at random. Now was clearly the latter, given the shove and how she hadn’t skipped a beat in chewing him out. All he did was ask her a question, geez!
And he wanted to understand her, really! He was oblivious to the fact that he was quite literally the same with her however, and how that was what contributed to their constant miscommunication. While Kagome was still the only person he had ever trusted so wholly, who he had been able to speak freely about his past and feelings and the only person who encouraged that, he still dreaded vulnerability. It was an annoying cocktail of fear of really looking in on himself, the delusion that he might be burdening her, and trying to figure out the confusing (frightening) feelings he had for her, barring him from even expressing that.
"Hey!” He tried to cut in, expression a mix of surprise and resentment despite the fact that he hadn’t been able to hide his flinch when she raised her voice. “Sh-Shut up, my nose works just fine, okay?! I was out there day and night, but it’s...a big place...,” he trailed off, well aware of how pathetic that sounded. Trying to make up for his hurt pride, he assumed his usual position of crossing his arms over his chest and turning his nose up at her, all childish and indignant. “M...maybe you should remember what ‘being a hero with me’ is like, because I’ve actually seen a tonne a demons all over this dumb island! So there!”
“...Unless you’re too busy for that kind of thing now.”

Zuko had never seen anything like this sword. It was.. hell, even bigger than he was. Zuko didn’t dare stare, but kept his eyes on his dog-eared fan of his. What made people think he was a ghost or a demon or what, Zuko didn’t care! He just wanted to be left alone so he could properly rot in his creepy pseudo paradise grave, and be done with it! The Fire Lord tried to keep his calm, but now with a sword in his face and this guy calling him a coward, he openly snarled.
He lost his kingdom, he might as well fight some psycho in the woods! What else could possibly go wrong??
“Of course I didn’t hurt them. I am not a tyrant! I am just..” Zuko stuttered angrily, trying to figure out exactly what he was exactly— and, pathetically, ended with, “..a normal guy with a hat!”
He snorted, frustrated with himself this stupid situation, and proceeded to tear off the straw conical hat and let it fall onto his shoulders. He hoped his face with mutilated, sleek smooth burns seemed sinister to the dog. Zuko had never been more thankful for a disfigurement before meeting a guy with a giant sword. He certainly wasn’t going to let the weapon intimidate him.
He drank in this guy behind his glaring stare, taking in his taller height and a form swimming in robes. He didn’t look so tough. Hell, he might have thought him a fire-nation citizen with those amber eyes and that fury, but Zuko wanted nothing in common with him.
“Fine- if you think I am a demon, I don’t really care anymore. I will put you out of your misery if you want, and stop these delusions, dog man!” He widened his stance and drew his crude sword with a metallic chime. It was a half-beaten old thing given to him out of sympathy. He sharpened it the best he could, but it looked capable of giving rust-poisoning, at best, and bludgeoning weapon at worse. He crouched deeply, throwing off his backpack of supplies at a nearby tree. He prepared to fight.
It was then, a hollow thunk of wood hit the dirt. Two items rolled out into the open— the sunlight filtered through the trees to smile upon the deep cerulean of Zuko’s blue spirit mask.. and a single, unbroken sacred arrow. The arrow was one he had pulled from the tree at Destiny Gardens, one that was shot from the mysterious archer, and wounded him even now. Zuko’s jaw clenched, seeing it off the side of his eye, and knowing the consequences of such a thing. The Blue Spirit.. a demon mask to someone uneducated on it’s origins. And yeah… this didn’t look good.
Zuko didn’t wait for the white-haired dog to react, he threw his unoccupied fist to one side and summoned his fury. He felt hot anger blossom into the fist, making a white-hot cone that would do for now, and his lack of weapon. There was no time—!
He crouched and leapt with a feline-like vengeance, striking his fist at the dog, crying out as he curled around the sword at close range, and aimed to slice the red-robes in two.
“No more stalling!!”
He watched this apparent demon with a steady glare, but a rather self-important grin took its place when he realized he had struck a chord with the other. Not that Inuyasha had any place relishing in how Zuko reacted, seeing as he was probably just as hotheaded and temperamental at his best, if not moreso, than the firebender he was irking. It was strange, granted, to see a demon so vehemently deny his lineage when they were normally so prideful, but Inuyasha was never one for reasoning or tact to begin with. A demon is a demon, no matter how insistent, or what human-like features they hold.
Zuko’s scar in particular garnered some curiosity from him, of course, as he had never heard of a demon that bore scars, but there was no time to stand there and muse. The aged burns did little to really affect the hanyou anyway, already well adjusted to far more grotesque extremities courtesy of Naraku. He perked up when the other spoke again and finally assumed an aggressive stance, sneering at the obvious inferiority of the other’s rusted blade. “Hah! Finally showing your true colours, huh, demon? Not like it’ll do you good, though,” he practically barked, though his haughtiness was short-lived. He initially paid no mind to the other’s belongings, but his gaze felt forcefully pulled to them once they had been discarded. The mask felt like it was leering at him, some demon’s face that now only cemented Inuyasha’s theory about this stranger, and an arrow.
An arrow. An arrow that still held a smell that was faint, albeit all too familiar. His stomach churned with uncertainty and a fear that froze him in place and loosened his grip on Tessaiga - a tremor in his hands, looming threat aside. She was here. She had seen this demon. There was no time to envision possible confrontations in his mind before his vision was met with flames. Inuyasha made a noise of surprise, lifting an arm to protect his face as he jumped backward, sword falling out of his grasp in the sudden movement. He cared little for that, honestly, claws growing to their full length to compensate for the unexpected loss of weapon. Who or whatever the other person was no longer mattered - they had something else to answer for entirely. “How,” he started, growled, blood and youkai energy alike boiling as he lunged toward the other, attempting to grab Zuko’s neck, “how the HELL did you get that?! Where is she?!”
Today was a hectic day in the pet shop. There was a very aggravated and very large black bear that was not behaving. All the free roaming animals had fled to backrooms and the ones in cages were yelling at D. The bear had a sore tooth, which D could understand. He had suffered through them before. They did hurt. They felt better after being pulled, but the bear wouldn’t listen to him. Force was going to be necessary, and D wasn’t going to be able to do it alone. Luckily he had hired help, someone with the name Inuyasha.
“Ursula, please,” he pleaded with the bear, but she just growled leave me alone and moved to the other side of the shop. D held his breath as she came close to knocking over an expansive vase.
Looking to the entrance of the shop, he spotted a figure entering. The white hair and red robes fit the description of the help. “You must be Inuyasha,” he greeted. Fatigue had replaced his normally charming way of speaking. The pair of ears on the other’s head quickly piqued his interest. “Are you a cynocephaly?”
Business wasn’t exactly booming, and trying to satiate his bottomless stomach was beginning to tear a hole in the wallet he didn’t actually have. There was no way he was going to ask Kagome for help, as he was sure that she would probably chide him for blowing every semblance of income he had almost instantly. Plus, she had her own monetary issues to worry about, and the least he could do was try and keep something aside for her. That in mind, he found himself taking more “obscure” jobs outside his usual demographic, his current project being just that. The details were vague (he didn’t even know what a petshop was until he got the job), but Inuyasha was actually quite good with animals provided he could control himself from deliberately annoying them, so he figured whatever this was, it wouldn’t be too difficult.
He immediately changed his mind upon entering the shop. He knew there’d be a bear, just not one this big.
“..Uh-huh,” he nodded at being addressed, despite the fact that he never took his eyes off the hulking animal in the room. The question visibly caught him off guard, though. Many people had tried guessing “what” he was even outside of this world, but whatever D had just said was so confusing it almost made him mad, in a way. “Am I a-- what? What?”
“What the hell is a...kee-no..whatever?! I’m a dog demon! Obviously!” He huffed childishly, but calmed himself as soon as he realized his outburst was unwarranted and, most importantly, probably not good for calming the bear. Clearing his throat and trying to shake away his embarrassment, he looked back at D proper before continuing, “anyway, yeah, I’m Inuyasha. So what’s wrong with your bear? ‘Cause she’s definitely nervous about something.”
The others reaction was more than enough to convince Allen he was clearly drunk. What else could explain such bad manners in a person?
❝I have no reason to start a fight with a drunk ❞ Allen scoffs in annoyance. ❝You might hate it here but that doesn’t mean I have to.❞ Usually the younger male isn’t so easily influenced by someones attitude but this guy sure does love trouble and what to say to annoy Allen.
During his fit of annoyance, Allen grabs a glass and takes a swig of his drink to shut up the male. ❝And I have a name! It’s Allen!❞
He’s never liked feeling like the immature one, the lesser, but it’s hard to vouch for himself under inebriation and lack of sleep. “Well! Good for you, but some of us don’t have time to just sit back and enjoy life with people depending on them back home!” He grumbles, ready to rattle on, but shuts up when he sees Allen take a drink. “Tch. Ain’t it polite to ask before you take someone’s drink, by the way?”
(he feels a little bad, honestly, but it’s not like he’s about to apologize)
“Riiight...and? You have a weird name, is that your point?”
Really now. What was going through her mind when she had left that place, without her sketchbook of all things?! That book had so many important drawings of her next partners and she lost it!? Or perhaps ‘forgot it’ would be the better term - ANYHOW! To find that precious book! She was retracing her steps, or trying to anyways. She wasn’t exactly sure where she had left the book but the best she could do was head to the places she had stopped to draw something.
It had taken her an hour before she reached the last place on her mental list; in front of the Devil’s Nest Bar. She actually liked that place, it was always amusing to see what could happen. However, because she was female, people viewed her as weak. Well, that was before she summoned Almotaher. Nobody could look that creature in the eye for more than a few seconds.
“Oh!” There, in that man’s hands, her sketchbook! Quickly heading over to him, she gave a small bow before taking it, skimming through the contents to double check and smiling when her creations ‘smiled’ back at her. “Thank you so much for finding it.”
“Wha--” Her zeal was more confusing than anything, as Inuyasha found the sketchbook taken from his grasp in an instant. He had wanted to ‘interrogate’ her on what he’d seen in flipping through it, through all manner of what he had decided to be demons, but her bow and genuinely grateful words shut him up immediately. The hanyou clamped his jaw, lips forming into an embarrassed, uncomfortable frown at her actions, opting to look away and shrug the matter off in a disguised haughtiness. Any suspicions he had were quelled - there was no way someone so meek could be some kind of...summoner, or something of that ilk, surely. At least not in a manner that warranted hostility.
“Psh, not like it was hard. You’re pretty damn careless, leaving it out there in the open.” Of course, it wasn’t as though Inuyasha knew how to approach a situation without some kind of vitriol, awkward or not. Interacting with humans was hard enough, but interacting with kind (at least, seemingly) human girls? That was something still wholly foreign to him. Collecting himself and softening his expression, he crossed his arms over his chest and gave the girl in front of him another once-over. “Hey..,” he started, drawing out the word as he mulled over what he wanted to ask; the area they were currently in wasn’t exactly safe or inviting, and as much as he wanted to call it a night and head to his (makeshift) home, something gnawed at his better judgement. “Look, it’s late, and I don’t know if you know this, but there are demons around here. So..uh..take..care of yourself...,” he fumbled with his words, always one to speak before thinking, “or I could take you home. If you’re going home, which you should, and if you don’t live far. If.”

“Why not?! If I’m stuck in this stupid world, I think it’s the perfect time! Live a little, kid.”
He squints right back at him, obviously indignant at the look of disgust he’s receiving. “And don’t glare at me like that unless you wanna start something!! …Do you wanna start something?!”
