At an international scientific conference, three geneticists were chatting; one was from the United States, another was from Great Britain and the third was from Japan. All three scientists had been working on genetic experiments involving cockroaches. The British geneticist said, "We've been splicing the genes of cockroaches with those of earthworms. Our goal is to create a strain of cockroaches that burrow in soil to make it more cultivatable. The Japanese geneticist said, "We've been splicing the genes of cockroaches with those of bees. Our goal is to create a strain of cockroaches that can pollinate flowers." The American geneticist said, "We've been splicing the genes of cockroaches with those of watermelons. Our goal is to create a strain of watermelons that when you cut one open, the seeds scuttle away!"
