I have an emotional support animal, a crested gecko, that i named after virgil because she helps me with anxiety and motivation ! i absolutely adore her, not actually sure of her sex but probable female lil friend, and she's with me at college helping me manage the Stress and all my regular junk

the character virgil is from @thatsthat24 's Sanders Sides series which has been so helpful in reminding me of and reinforcing some coping mechanisms ive gotten from therapy like recognizing and correcting negative thought patterns and Damn it's a rlly great series that has helped me a lot,, honestly it has great messages about self-care and Dealing With Life and is super wholesome and sweet and funny and im way too invested fjsjfjkakrs im hype for everything but anyway!! Yeah™️

me and my lad moved in on the 18th ! college has been Ocurring and ive had this lil guy with me through it all ♡ i haven't gotten to handle her (still unsexed), since I wanted her to settle in and things have been Hectic™️, but i did clean her tank a couple days ago (i felt so bad for disturbing her but she need to b Cleansed )

i was a tad worried earlier bc the humidity stays up with no effort here, it was actually too high for a while and some mold grew under her food dish, but it's all disinfected safely and now im only spraying once a day (at night so she can slorp up that water!!)

Advice ? pls

Is a preliminary vet visit helpful just as a check-up when she's more handleable? Or would that just be extra stress and money? I wanna do what's best for her ♡

Personally, when I have the funds and the time to spare, I really like taking my reptiles in for well checks even when there’s nothing obviously wrong. It’s very soothing for my tendency to what-if myself into an anxious mess about the most minor of things. They can also probably sex your gecko for you, so there’s that.

you're so right thank you!! im gonna see if she can get a bit more used to handling first so it's not too much of a fiasco, and also i don't have a car so i need to procure a ride lmao but! vet is on the list of priorities now

UPDATE ON VIRGIL!!

he is an Absolute Rowdy Boy!!! not even sure if he's a boy tho, he is Very Small

he's super energetic and i did see a bit of poop but not much (i have sphagnum moss though so it could be hidden if there's more) so im not 100% sure he's eating enough :( and handling him has been kind of a nightmare of stress and terror because he's an acrobatic unstoppable force of pure jumping energy, so im going to give him two weeks to cool off (cleaned his tank today) then try handling him gradually inside his tank until he trusts me more and Hopefully Please God calms down some,,, any sort of fire alarm that isnt a drill will be Hell if i cant get him out safely, and of course i need him out to clean his tank

also tried offering crickets while i had him out to clean the tank, he showed Zero interest but i wasnt very persistent because i didnt want him crawling out the top of the critter keeper so i just dropped thos lil guys inside and he ignored them, probably and understandably stressed

so it's not going Great but i love him so much, i am just full of worry! people say cresties are easy, and sure upkeep and enrichment isnt too hard, but handling my lil guy is... well, im pretty sure my heart stopped a few times and i pulled a leg muscle from shaking afterwards because he has a habit of jumping towards the closet where he could get lost forever, and i can get him in time its just So Scary and stressful for both of us

set up for a juvenile crested gecko ! he's gonna be about 11 grams or maybe a little more since information on him was updated like a month ago,, im ordering him from pangea and the sex is actually not known bc too Small

im unsure if this is Too Crowded or Not Enough cover for hiding ? i also have a hanging coconut hide but i dont have a suction cup or magnet to hang it yet oof,,

any tips or advice is welcome Please,,

humidity is pretty easy here in Florida but not sure about my college dorm so i also ordered some sphagnum moss to put around the tank to boost that if needed,,
