the rising need for data centers to process all this AI shit is also putting a massive strain on the US electric grid like it’s not even just a question of how much power we can generate from various sources and how clean it is or isn’t it’s literally a question of electric grid infrastructure and our capacity for creating electric hookups in a timely fashion which is also fucking with real estate prices because areas with existing electric grid capability are suddenly massively more valuable to people building data centers - additional costs mentioned by @cerusee
