God I fucking HATE Reginald Hargreeves because the Sparrow Academy is literally the biggest example of his own ego and abusive habits possible. His children travel back to before he adopts them and openly tell him he was a poor father, one of them literally shows him the physical deformities he left him with, they make it very clear that they are fucked up because of their childhoods and you know what he takes away from that experience? That it was their fault. It wasn’t his choices as a parent or his actions that caused a fucking apocalypse, but that his children just weren’t ‘strong enough’ to handle his abuse. That’s why he chose new people for the Sparrow Academy - because he believes the Umbrella Academy must have just been terrible people, not that he’s at fault for being an abusive father.

Things that were probably not supposed to happen

I watched through season 2 of Umbrella Academy again and tried to make note of everything the kids did that was most likely not supposed to happen and may have affected the timeline. In no particular order they are:

-Elliot dying and his entire storyline in the season. If he hadn’t seen the UA drop into the alley he wouldn’t have become a paranoid conspiracy theorist. He would have just been a TV salesman and his wife probably wouldn’t have left him.

-Grace leaving Reginald. This was because of Diego’s interference. It’s possible that she would have left him eventually, but not then and probably not like that. They may have even gotten married. It’s also possible she might have died while still with him.

-Harlan getting powers. Obviously, no one was supposed to get powers until the kids were born in 1989. So this is a HUGE change to the timeline.

-Ray marrying Allison. He was already an influential figure for racial equality and, as he told Allison, he probably would have still been arrested. However, he wouldn’t have had Klaus to get him out of jail. So what would have happened? Would have been released and been killed by that cop during the riot?

-Carl dying. I don’t think this would have an effect on the timeline, but you never know. Maybe powered up Harlan blames himself for killing his father and it’s turned him into something bad.

-Klaus’s cult and the last of the Swede brothers joining the cult.

-Lila taking the briefcase. Who knows what havoc she could wreak. Maybe she goes back to try to save her parents and that fucks a lot of shit up.

-Dave joining the Marines early. I mean, it’s not that much earlier, but as Reginald says a lot can happen in just a few seconds. Maybe he gets wounded because he got there a little sooner and is released from the military.

-Luther telling old!Five all about Vanya causing the apocalypse. Because that would have changed the entirety of season one. Imagine if Five had showed up and knew right away that Vanya was the cause.

-Jesus, I forgot one of the big ones: the kids talking to their father in the Tiki Lounge.
