you know what i loved about knives out? (besides, ya know….everything.) how un-sexualized marta was. like, yeah, ana de armas is one of the most beautiful women alive, nothing can hide that, but… she wasn’t put in any revealing clothing, or any fanservicey scenarios. she doesn’t even have a love interest! and i realized how rare that actually is for a mainstream film. even in films where a female character doesn’t have a huge romance plot, she often has Obligatory Sexual Tension with SOME guy, and wears clothing that emphasizes her body, regardless of practicality. but marta just dresses like…. a regular, working class, woman going about her life, doing her job, living in massachusetts where it’s cold as shit, trying not to go jail, and not really giving a crap about how she looks because it’s just not her priority right now. it was a small thing, but it was just so refreshing!
