Writblr Intro - 2.0

Hello everyone! I'm Zan! I'm a college student currently studying English & Literature. I've been writing for roughly 10 years and this is my updated intro. As I am working hard to get my degree I thought I would share some of my writing here. This blog is solely for my original works and silly writing rambles/thoughts.

I dabble in both fiction prose and poetry! I have written the occasional analysis or review throughout my studies, but I focus on fictional stories. My writing tends towards themes of love, grief, and learning to let go. Putting a pen to paper is my favorite form of catharsis and having a voice to share such emotions is important to me.

My current WIP is untitled. I decided to postpone figuring out a title until I actually finished a draft. Perhaps, when I get to the point of sending a draft to beta readers I will finally workshop a title.

I like to describe it as a lesbian mystery/thriller novel with some supernatural elements.

The synopsis is as follows:

The story follows Aaliyah Kinard, a sheltered college freshman trying to spread her wings as students go missing on campus. She has one friend, her best friend, Quinten Emmerson, a quirky troublemaker with a heart of gold. When Quinten turns up missing and the authorities aren't interested in investigating his case longer than they have to, Aaliyah takes it upon herself to figure out what happened to him. While her investigation opens up opportunities for new friendships and a budding romance, dark mysteries lurk, threatening to turn Aaliyah's life upside down.

Funnily enough, an outline of the entire novel exists. Character arcs and all, I simply haven't started writing it yet. So hopefully sharing will motivate me to get up and start writing!

Eat Me Alive

I lost a chunk of my arm first; a piece above my elbow. A girl asked for it, kindly. I gave it without thinking; my fresh naivete. She chewed away at my arm's flesh. I ignored it, she'd stop soon. Then my fingers were bone. I flared angrily, snapped my teeth and she met me with a whip.

Next to go were my legs, beaten down and weak; resistance was useless. Others joined the girl, gnawing through sinew. Flesh splitting from bone and down their slick gullets. Throats bulging with my flesh, my body but their pleasure.

When my fibula departs, they move along leaving enough intact. My torso lacked the flavor they longed for. Any extra bits are chewed up and spat out like sour gum.

A/N: Oh my god I've accidentally taken a super long hiatus. College life is wild and my studies are going well enough. Of course, it takes me away from writing, but hey what can you do. I hope everyone's having a delightfully terrifying Halloween!

WIP Rambles

The best part about re-exploring my WIP is adding to some character playlists. I have 5 playlists for this book too. One is general vibes, then three represent each part of the main trio, and a final one for the major antagonist.

I might share a little more about the playlists and small character profiles in the future. Probably once I figure out a title. Which is almost as hard as sitting down and writing. What can I say? I have a million things going on, on top of being an aspiring author.

Bite-Sized Heart

My heart aches in its bone

cage, thumping wildly

with a haunting tone.

Pressing against bars,

begging for freedom

not knowing how far

I dare to go to protect

it from fiendish foes

who reflect

empty visages of lies.

No matter how

hard I try

they worm their way

back into my heart’s jar.

Maggots gnawing every day,

eating my bite-sized heart.

Tiny mouths nibble

at this sour tart.

Bitter from years past

when hope left

and never lasts.

Me, as a reader: Why did we ever get rid of chapter titles? Bring back punny titles, and redundant title structures and tables of contents!

Me, as a writer: First, I had to come up with a title for the book and, now, I need one for every chapter? Impossible!

Mini update post to just say hi!! I'm alive!

Got really wrapped up with my college semester, so I haven't done a lot of writing but I hope to at least throw together some words soon.

Maybe even dive more into my WIP. I am in desperate need of revisiting the outline because I have the entire novel outline (like every single chapter is planned). Maybe I should actually start upping that word count.

Not fully back. But I've been doing some writing lately. No original projects, little fanfiction things, so I won't be speaking of them in detail here.

But it's hard to come back to writing after not doing it for a little (sometimes life gets in the way) 'cause I can see how clunky my sentences get in real time. It's painful, but I know I must suffer through it to ultimately edit and fix it.
