Meet Wonder Woman's Black Sister
Betcha didn't know about Nubia...
Nubia was Wonder Woman's "black sister", created from black clay, just as Diana was created from white clay. Both were brought to life by Aphrodite, but Nubia was stolen by Ares/Mars (the Greek and Roman names were interchangeable, and more often than not, the Roman names were used. Mars was one of the gods whose Roman name was used.), so Nubia did not get the powers that was given to Diana.
Mars raised Nubia to be his warrior, giving her a special ring to keep her mind clouded. Years later, Diana met Nubia, who became her roommate. After several battles, Wonder Woman was able to release Nubia from Mars' control, when she used the heat of the sun, reflected off her bracelets, to cause the ring to expand and fall off. Nubia defied Mars, and optioned to lead her warriors to the ways of peace. It was then that Queen Hippolyte revealed the truth: Nubia was Diana's sister!
Nubia is also seen in a few issues of Superfriends, in which she is wearing a costume inspired by Wonder Woman:
A gold disc with a red feather in the top center.
A blue, strapless, legless bodysuit with yellow ovals over the breasts.
A pair of white gauntlets, over which are a pair of Amazon bracelets.
Tall, yellow boots, with the top edges folded down.

#JusticeForDevonWalker This is my boyfriendâs best friend after being assaulted by Escambia County (Florida) Sheriff Officers while his wife had to watch helplessly.. This shouldnât be so.. Especially when he wasnât arrested or charged w/ anything.. #policebrutality #justicefordevonwalker #repost #florida
I canât find words other than a sincere plea that you not only read this, but get the word out that my friend may have justice. I ask that if you go anywhere, not just in the south, but everywhere, be aware of your surroundings & be careful who you trust. Be safe, and be blessed.
It kind of blows my mind that this happened in my hometown. #justice
Bad that I kno him and its in my city smh

Black Mothers Speak Out After Trayvon: âMy Son Is Not a Suspectâ
In the aftermath of George Zimmermanâs acquittal on all charges related to the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, the continued racial profiling of young black men has become even bigger news than usual. On Tuesday, Essence Magazine launched a social media campaign called #HeIsNotASuspect to challenge the negative images of young black men in the media. Its aim is to end racial profiling by targeting the often unacknowledged victims of violence targeted at young black men: the black mothers, grandmothers, aunties, sisters, and girlfriends who are often left behind to pick up the pieces.
So far, the campaign has unearthed beautiful images and declarations of love. Check them out after the jump.

I have this theory that the more important and intimate the emotion, the fewer the words are required to express it. For instance, in dating, âWill you go out with me?â Six words. âI think I care for you.â Five words. âYou matter to me.â Four words. âI love you.â Three words. âMarry me.â Two words. So whatâs left? Whatâs the most important and intimate word you can ever say to somebody? Itâs âgoodbyeâ.

Donât let the world break your spirit, my dear. Even though you may not be able to see it right now, it really is a beautiful blessing.
Be soft.
