[It’s a few moments before Blair brings over a plate with three blackberry muffins and a cup of hot chocolate before setting them down in front of Virgil.]

I don’t know if you like coffee but hot chocolate is always a safe bet. Calvin should be out here soon though!

[Calvin stands nervously outside the bakery. He takes a deep breath before coming inside. He walks up to the front desk. His usual relaxed fit is switched for something more professional, black dress pants, a white button up, and a black bow tie. He still has his old kinda beaten up backpack on with different pins and such. He’s holding a piece of paper in his hands, his resume.]

[A voice calls, and a few seconds later Blair appears at the counter dusting flour of his hands, ignoring how some is on her face, glasses and cardigan, and smiles at the appearance of the teen who probably looks over dressed compared to the bakers casual outfit.]

Hi, how can I help you?

[Calvin pushes his glasses up with the back of his hand as he smiles politely at Blair. He glances at his resume before setting it on the counter and turning it around so Blair can see before sliding it over.]

I would like to apply for a job here.

[The résumé lists a few places where Calvin had done odd jobs around town. Painting walls for people, selling baked good at school fairs, babysitting, mowing, just general things that kids would do to make money.

The paper lists more in-depth things about seeking baked goods at fairs and cookies and lemonade when he was a kid, goes into a bit about knowing about baking from helping his grandma out. Lists a few traits and things he’s good at. Says he’s in highschool and on the football team. Really just resume things.]

[Blair takes off their glasses and pulls a cloth from his apron to wipe them with before picking up Calvin’s resume off of the counter. Unlike most places, she doesn’t just skim over it, instead taking a few moments to actually read over certain parts.]

What sort of things did you bake with your Grandma? If you don’t mind me asking?

Uh mostly cookies, but others as well like pretzel bread, everything biscuits, pies, and muffins.

[Calvin tried to subtly wipe the sweat off his palms by rubbing them against his pants. Trying to play it off as maybe just smoothing his clothes out. This is host first time being able to apply for a real job that aren’t just side gigs.]

[Blair gives a soft reassuring smile in return before continuing to read. Looking over past jobs, they can tell this kid is a good worker. Plus the fact she can ever so obviously how much he loves baking.]

Well, if you don’t mind waiting a few moments while I call some of your listed past employers to just check some things, I can get an answer to you after?

[Calvin gives a small nods and steps a little back from the counter. He’s not sure if it’s more polite to just stay standing or if he’s allowed to sit so he just waits awkwardly to the side of the counter.]

[Blair disappears somewhere into the back to make the phone calls, and after a few longs moments he comes back smiling.]

Well, to formally introduce myself to you Calvin, I’m Blair Enger. And, I’d like to discuss your availability for hours?

[it takes Calvin a second to register the name and put the pieces together. He makes a small squeak when he does.]

I uh I can work after school and practice. So six to ten? And I can do more on weekends. Come in early if needed.

[Grabbing a pen and note pad near the register, Blair writes this down in their flowy handwriting, giving an amused sort of smile at Calvin realising who he is.]

On weekends I sometimes hold events, mostly at night, and depending on the events would you be comfortable helping set up and pack up?

I…I guess it depends on the event? But uh sure.

It’s mostly things like poetry nights, knitting nights, book clubs, so on. We do sometimes have queer community nights. But you’ll have the option to do so or not well ahead of the event, along with what event it is.

[Blair gives a reassuring smile before writing something else down.]

Holidays, I normally take over unless someone specifically requests to work to get away from socialising with family or others. Just so you’re aware. I will never deny anyone needing to work extra.

Hmm, how does this Sunday sound? Saturday’s tend to get a bit busy so I don’t normally train on that day.

[Calvin thinks about his friends. Then actually thinks about his friends. Maybe he’ll just invite Virgil… or have them slowly come in, ya know work his way up to Max… Virgil, then Anthony, then Kyle and Jason (they’re a duo he’s not about to separate them) and then Max… ya. Ya that might work.]

….I’ll talk to them about it.
