Inspired by the five-star Aman Kyoto hotel in Japan, Aman Komorebi is set in a secluded forest garden, nurtured over the years by its former owners who dreamt of creating a textile museum. The gently curving mossy stone pavements, the rustling of the mountain foliage above, the murmur of the mountain streams and the chirping of birds, create a tranquil garden away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
It took some time for Aman to reach Japan. But judging by the quality of its workmanship, it was worth the wait. Following the high-rise Aman Tokyo and ryokan-style Amanem, this is the third Aman. It is located in Kyoto, but at the foot of a mountain with extensive private gardens and unspoilt forests. Originally intended to house a textile museum, the location has been transformed into the impeccably designed luxury of Aman Kyoto.
Aman Kyoto was designed by architect Kelly Hill, who specialises in minimalist buildings and beautiful gardens. Those familiar with the hotel will know that the fusion of high style and high luxury is part of Aman's appeal. The rooms and suites are, needless to say, stunning, with a variety of views to enjoy from the windows. Western-style Western rooms and Japanese-style tatami rooms offer views of gardens, mountains and the ancient capital of Kyoto. All rooms have a traditional Japanese cypress bath. The Pavilion, which overlooks the entire garden and Mount Hiei from its elevated position, is the largest and most tranquil space in the resort.
