DISASTER REPORT #1

OBSERVED PHENOMENON IN SPIRALE’S WARDS FROM 4/17-4/19

FIBONACCI The properties of gravity are in influx. At times it is so heavy that it is difficult to move, and others it is completely absent and allowing even the heaviest of objects to float in the sky. While this might be the most fun, be wary of falling debris or falling yourself if it suddenly shifts back to normal. It is much safer to remain in locations where there is a ceiling. 

COTES Constant earthquakes of varied intensity wrack Cotes at random intervals. Many are light and barely noticeable, but several times per day they will be strong enough to risk knocking over less fortified buildings. The school district has a foundation strong enough to function as a safe zone. 

GOLDEN Rising sea levels have brought widespread flooding into the sector, making it difficult to access wires for those that are not aquatically inclined. The constant rise and fall of water also means that people are needed to help evacuate the NPC citizens. The Spiral Dome is the safe zone in Golden, anti-flooding provisions executed to keep everyone inside safe. 

ARCHIMEDES Storm clouds swirl around Archimedes and it isn’t wracked only by heavy winds but also extreme rainfall and daunting lightning strikes. Visibility is extremely low due to the dark canopy above, and with power outages it can be very difficult to traverse the ward without portable light sources.

   “Hello~~? Helloooooooooowah~!!” The sing-song tone of the plastic cat echos throughout the house. She’s back. Back in Spirale, and enjoying every moment of it. So Much to do! To See!! To Catch up on!! Normally others would be disappointed on their return to this place unless they’d formed a deep attachment to it, and despite the curious curious moment where she’d been human and set out to defend the city from that weird monster with everyone, she loved this place. There’s always new sights, new faces, new things to see!! Including this house!! Cotes stationed again, so Une’s not unfamiliar with the layout of the building, but the surprise that came with meeting your new roommates? Oh she HAD to meet them eventually!! 

   The plastic of her feet thump against the carpet softly as she looks around, eagerly looking at the bedrooms as she made her way through the house. Leian, Kazuma, she’d have to introduce herself very soon!! One name stood out however. Much like the other two, the name adorned the top of the door. ‘Mr. Hat.’ Now if that didn’t sound curious, Unikitty didn’t know what else would!! He sounds neat by just name alone! “Oh, Mister Haaaaaaaaaaat~! Are you in there?” She knocks, once, twice, three times before pressing her face to the door. “It’s me your new roomie!! Open Uuuuuuuuuup~!!” She could be interrupting him, she could even be waking him up! And the possibly he’s not in his room to begin with? All instances she doesn’t even stop to think about. She just wants to get to know her new roomies!!

   “Mister Haaaat! Lemme innnnn! Why are you called ‘Mr. Hat’ anyway?”

Mr. Hat sat on the floor of his living space cross legged in front of a somewhat chaotic mess of fabric half cut and half pieced next to each other in what was the start of a pattern. He rapped his fingers against the metal of his pickelhaube as he pondered over his current fabric options aloud to the empty room. 

“Yes, but do the colors clash? This blue is awful bright, should it be paired with a cream instead of the red? What do you think?”

As to answer his own question, he picks the military helmet up from the ground beside him and slips it on as he stands. A moment of silence passes as he works to push through the uncomfortable emptiness he still wasn’t used to from this particular hat only for his efforts to produce nothing more then the familiar weight and sizzle of a hot iron lance in his gloved hand. An irritated hiss escapes his throat before a sudden barrage of noise pulls his attention away from his current struggles. He tilted his head in a curious fashion before removing the pickelhaube from his own helm allowing the weapon in hand to vanish. Strange, he’s yet to receive any visitors up to this point. The Haberdasher made his way to the door of his residence, grabbing the cane given to him by his captors that had been resting next to his coat that had been carefully hung on a chair on the way.

The increased din of the unknown guest on the other side of the door was a bit humorous in all honesty, but still Mr. Hat opened the door in a casual manor. Really he didn’t know what to expect, but the sight of the small brightly colored creature amused him greatly.

“Ha! Delightfully darling! Good day little one! Roomie?”

He crouched down with his cane placed in his lap and held the pickelhaube to his chest to get a better look at her from the threshold of his living space. Curious indeed!

Well, this was…certainly a peculiar outing. The Blue Burrower had scant been in this…“Radiale” more than a few days, but already, he’d gained some odd attentions!

…At least, that’s what it seemed. Really, he wasn’t sure what the deal with this was.

All he knew was that he’d received an anonymous letter in his mail, bearing a message made up of newspaper cutouts, telling him to come to this location at this late hour. But what he was standing in front of now seemed to be…an abandoned shop of some kind? It certainly seemed derelict from lack of use…

Yet, the doorknob was clean of dust. In other words, someone had entered, and recently. Well, if that was the case, he might as well venture forth! 

Shovel Knight stepped into the abandoned shop, the only light glinting into the vacant outlet being from the outside moon. Curious, he had full view of the place, and yet– he wasn’t seeing anybody?

“Hello?” He cautiously called out, taking a few steps into the center of the outlet. “I received some notice; is there any–”

“–Nngh?!”

Shovel Knight takes a knee, feeling an unparalleled bloodlust suddenly upon his back. 

What the devil…?! 

Getting back to his feet, for the first time, he took a good look at where exactly he was. Abandoned though it was, there were some lingering objects scattered along the walls– hat racks. 

Beneath his armor, Shovel Knight’s skin went pale. This was a haberdashery.

“Oh, heavens above, it cannot be.”

It took a bit or work to find this emptied store. It was out of the way and without any front windows which seemed to be a popular trend among the stores of this island. Terrible really, the thought of all those clothes becoming eventually sun bleached like could send him in a foul mood but that wasn’t what he was here for tonight. As the Haberdasher caught sight of the familiar blue knight from his perch up in the rafters he hummed softly in delight. Right on time! Without leaving much time, he threw down a lance near the threshold of the door to help persuade the little knight from fleeing before hopping down himself to land precariously on its tip. His posture straightened as he stood at attention to peer down at his guest.

“Good evening my old cerulean clad customer! It;s been quite a while now hasn’t it?”

▶ This guy, he seemed… different than most. Guts could already tell that interacting with him would prove to be possibly painful but not in the literal sense.

▶ “ I don’t like hats. “ A moment passed and he replied to the other observation. “ I only live to swing my sword. Of course now I don’t have it. “ That truth was so painfully obvious, and it irritated Guts to no end. His sword was invaluable to him, and was an extension of himself, and his soul.

Mr. Hat wrinkled his nose under his helmet with distaste at the reply. He stilled his tongue for the time being, but he could definitely could feel a rant being barely contained. There was an angle to play here and he was going to play it.

“Hm! I see! Shame that, one could do you well. Seems we are both at a loss then. A swordsman without a sword and a Hatter without his hats! Quite a conundrum, certainly. Seems our thieving captors care for a bit of irony.”

     How does an adventurer get used to a lifestyle more suited for the common folk? Hardly a week in and he’s been itching for some sort of excitement. Hidden treasure - a creature plaguing an innocent village - something lest he lose himself from all this silence. A frustrated groan leads to a crowd of passing people to quickly steer clear from his path; shovel blade gripped in a tight hold, begging to strike down anything. As digits rhythmically drum against the handle, he finds a stranger, tall and thin, blocking his path. Speaking words he barely registers all thanks to that distracting helm of his.

“ What shop? ” Curiosity and the possibility of a quest has him humoring the other. Any other day, and he’d have shoved him aside to carry on his merry little way. “ There are plenty here. If it’s nostalgia you so desire, go venture inside one of them. I’ve no interest in your nonsensical whinging. ”

He rotated the cane given to him upon his arrival in hand and tilted his head slightly at the little knight’s response. If he hadn’t gone out of his way to block the smaller man’s path, then Mr. Hat probably would’ve taken a bit more offense to the brash comments. The tailor let out an amused hum before continuing, blatantly ignoring the latter half of Black Knight's response.

“Oh it was a lovely shop. A fancy shop. A wonderful little Haberdashery within the Armour Outpost where adventurers could come and spend coin for tailoring and fittings. You remind me of a little blue knight who happened upon my shop. Quite the generous type. One could never forget a helm quite like that.”

Mr. Hat approached closer as he rambled with a casual air about him, determined to examine the obsidian helm closer. For a moment he’d completely forgotten about his current predicament of having lost his hat magic over his own cravings, but he knew better from years of experience then to start anything in public.

021. How do they display affection?

Mr. Hat displays it very subtly mostly because he probably doesn’t even realize he’s doing it himself. A lot of it is gonna be him just taking extra interest in what you’re talking about and offering to fix up your clothing or make you something. He’d also just be very liberal about gift giving.

031. Are they superstitious about anything?

Not particularly, no. He might have had some small superstitions once upon a time, but they’ve long since been forgotten. 

050. How does your character feel about their own mortality?

He is very much unconcerned about it to an almost worrying degree. That’s not to say he’s going out of his way to get killed, but it’s just very much something he doesn’t think about.

099. Do they talk to inanimate objects?

A lot more then he probably realizes to be honest lol. He definitely will talk to his hats every so often as a means of regathering his own thoughts.

100. Does your character dream? If so, what do they dream about?

Accidentally answered this in a different ask but short answer yes almost every night, and he talks in his sleep and its scary sounding. His dreams are strange because they often revolve around the memories that aren’t his own and so they include people he’s never seen or interacted with before or very detailed scenes of places he’s never been. I don’t think he usually remembers most if any of his dreams when he wakes up.

If you ask him, he legitimately wouldn’t remember. It’s November 24th though!

047. What was the last medical problem your character had?

Mr. Hat has an awful and incredibly selective memory that’s only getting worse as time goes on. He’s got a habit of using other people’s memories as a means of supplementing his own which do not cobble together as well as he actually thinks they do.

082. What are your character’s sleeping preferences?

He prefers a warm environment and a firm bed, buuuuut he more often then not falls asleep either at a workstation or sitting up. Also fun fact if he ends up falling asleep with his helmet on you can actually hear him dreaming which is a lot more of a scary experience than you’d think considering there’s a lot of different voices that are disjointed and overlapping themselves because you’re hearing it in real time and not in his perceived time. It can get loud.

009. Do they believe in happy endings?

I think the idea of an “ending” would confuse him in all honesty. Things don’t stop just because he’s achieved something he wants and to be honest that’s how he prefers it. There’s always another hat to go after, another story to experience.

020. What are their hobbies?

Apart from his hat collection, Mr. Hat is genuinely fond of sewing and tailoring. Taking away that considering it’s his job anyway, I can see him really enjoying needle crafts like embroidery or cross-stitch. It’s familiar and repetitive in a good way. A long time ago he could consider research as a hobby too but he’s long since forgotten that aspect of himself.

028. What makes them laugh out loud?

The easiest way to get him to laugh is by making puns. He loves puns lol. Apart from that his sense of humor is really strange.
