is/has been an active suicide risk
doesn’t or cannot consider suicide a real option and so is left with an inarticulable feeling of circling the drain

actually while Hey Little Songbird is very much about sexual assault i do think it's the mirror (continuation?) of Build A Wall where.... im not trying to diminish the importance of the over sexual predation here... but it's also very much about how the systems and political powers fabricate poverty so that they can violate, abuse, and force people to give up their autonomy for a bite to eat. like Eurydice wasn't groomed by a creepy man.... the guy who's the reason why they are having longer & longer and harsher & harsher winters, who's destroying the soil for his mining and fossil fuel projects, who's taking enslaving ppl (not just putting the dead to work, but taking workers & killing them) who could've been up on the surface helping with the harvest and enriching the community is preying on her BECAUSE he KNOWS she's hungry. he put her in this situation, and dangled what she needed in front of her, knowing she wasn't in a situation where she could say no. like it is v much about sexual assault but also how power imbalances work. how he goes about convincing ppl that building a wall will make them free / poverty is the enemy / their fellow workers & community members would them down when theyre hungry instead of working together to tear down the wall or leave Hadestown together.

There's an open pit in the middle of our office plan that drops down into a bunch of very sharp spikes that kill you instantly. This is bad. People keep falling in there and dying. Someone put a sign up, the other day, all bright yellow so you can't miss it, that says "Beware!!! Spikes!!!"
The office immediately split into two factions over it. One says that if anyone falls in the spike pit it's their own fault for being so stupid and not watching where they're walking, so we should remove the sign. The other says that the sign is an insult, there shouldn't be a spike pit in our office at all, and having the sign up like that is just normalising the existence of the spike pit, so we should remove the sign.
We ended up removing the sign. Probably for the better. Still... for a while there it looked like it might have worked...
Nobody has ever been capable of writing a scathingly harsh and well formulated satire about the perils of modern capitalism, that doesn't just get immediately one-upped by some random food service worker talking about their actual week.

Where's it made? Who brought it here? How much were they paid? Who makes it? Is it made in separate parts and put together? How much were they all paid to do this? Where do they get the materials? Who paid for that? Who brings it there? How much were they paid? Who streamlined the base materials? How much were they paid? Who gathered the base materials? Where? How much were they paid? Is it good for them? Is it good for us? Is it good for the land? Is it necessary? Is it biodegradable? How much does it hurt? Do I need it? Do I even want it?
