(from my wip: Kingdoms Collide)
A chill and fog hung over the air of Koda as the sound of swords clashed in the distance. Inside the lookout tower at the highest part of the castle, Queen Raven stood with her husband, King Ashwin.
The weather perfectly matched their mood as another battle came across their land.
“Six months and I haven’t seen one flag of truce from her,” Raven said with a sigh. She rested her hands against the edge of the tower and leaned into Ashwin’s shoulder.
Ashwin rubbed his hand up Raven’s arm and imagined the dust from thousands of horses storming across their land.
“Darling, you know that won’t happen,” he whispered, pressing his chin to the top of Raven’s head, “it’s against everything she is.”
Raven shifted against Ashwin and closed her eyes as goosebumps rushed up her body.
Queen Zarda of Ursa, her own sister, had never been afraid to declare any kind of battle or fight against Raven. Six months ago, however, she’d declared a war against Raven’s entire kingdom.
“I guess there’s just still one part of me that has hope for her,” she admitted quietly, her eyes still locked on the land in front of her as her hands fiddled with the branch-shaped wedding ring she wore.
