To Walk With Coyotes, And Fly With Owls
When the world gets tough, when I get knocked down, sometimes I view the woods beyond the cities and the towns from afar. Be it photos or just sitting on the outskirts, I sit and look out at the wilderness. It's a beautiful place, truly.
Birds sing symphony to the old trees a soundtrack for the critters roaming the woods in search of meals. Bears meander between the barks of pine trees and dogwoods, and the snakes and lizards sneak through the brush looking for the space between the leafy canopy.
Sprawling swamps provide the canvas for a sight almost undisturbed by humanity. Waters the color of un-sweetened tea hide beautiful fish and majestic alligators. The trees above swoop moss down over the few paths people have made, creating a frame encapsulating a beauty rarely appreciated.
Even suburbia, as terrifying as it seems, contains wildlife still thriving. Deer cross asphalt paved paths beneath the bright street lights. Snakes and armadillos and so many more pass through sidewalks and porches, using it as a rest stop for their journey to where they decide to go.
And when the pale moon rises above sleeping homes and sprawling fields, new animals come to play. While the rest of the forest sleeps, owls, with breathtakingly elegant wings, swoop through branches hunting for prey. Coyotes run through forests to the sounds of the bugs still awake, with a feeling of carefreeness I could only hope to one day have.
Sometimes I wish I could be part of it. No need to conform to how people percieve me, no need to conform to how I people think I should be seen. The freedom found in the wild that's been ingrained to be wrong to me, I crave it. I wish to run with the foxes. I want to roam the woods with the deer. I want to walk with the coyotes, to fly with the owls. I want to be free from my life, from the pressures of who I am meant to be.
And one day, I'll be brave enough to enter the woods outside my old home. I'll play and run and walk and relax just like the animals I've watched from afar do. And maybe, just maybe, I'll forget about the life I should be living for a while.
