My favorite fanon thing about Mercedes is that she's drawn chubby sometimes. It's oddly fitting and super cute.

I don't think we acknowledge how interesting a character Mercedes is. Like she gets boiled down to 'group mum clumsy hehe'.

Like that's the woman who told her brother he was right to want to kill her because she needed to atone for abandoning him in an abusive household. Mercedes was 9, and Emile was 8. She's lived with that guilt for 13 years, even though she was a child. So much so that when he says he wants to kill her she says 'you are within your rights'. He snaps out of his murderous rage because he's so surprised that she will let him kill her. She thinks she deserves to die for what she did (which was something she had little to no control over when she was a vulnerable child)

She doesn't hate the crest system, but does hate the class system. She is aggressive to nobles who adore nobleness and harsh when she needs to be.

She has an amazing support chain with Sylvain which has her calling out his bull so many times. But she also talks about her past and is concerned that it bored him. Sylvain recognises it as what it is a tragic story that a child shouldn't have suffered through. Mercedes thought that being used for a crest and then being made homeless was a boring story? she's so used to this sort of thing being the norm that she thinks its dull and is happy to share it.

Then you have her and Sylvain making silly jokes with each other about marriage and kids

and then the conversation gets more insightful because they discuss Sylvain's experience with being assaulted/ harassed, and recognises all the signs and how he acts because she's been through that as well. She tells him she 'understands the pain you've had to carry'.

so to summarise in Sylvain's support chain alone she: has a wicked sense of humour, is blunt and firm, has a saviour complex, has a difficult past, struggles with the crest system, and has been abused in multiple different ways.

Why do we reduce her to team mom again?

Yeah she's also sweet and clumsy and gives without taking and a healer but she's also a lot of different things too.
