my current experience as someone in school in west virginia: the kids are especially progressive. if i had to take a crack at it, from memory and some guess work, out of 120 people in my grade 25 are queer, probably more. around 60 more kids are at least supportive
hell, even kids i remember as hardlined dickwads are getting better.
like, the boy who went out of his way to tell me my shirt was sinful (it had 1 rainbow) in sixth grade (i think? too far back to remember properly.)? i mentioned i was a queer and he responded "hell yea! i support!"
a close friend of mine, who i know well is being raised by a women who is alt-right q-anon? who was afraid to say "gay" a few months back? his 5 best friends, including me, are 3/5ths queer people! hes very kind and is supportive of my queerness.
ive also noticed that rural queer youth act a lot like queer elders. by that i mean my best friends nickname for me is "faggot", and i have never heard a single argument about identity politics. the vibe is very much live and let live.
