RQ Mini Bang 2026

The Rusty Quill Mini Bang is here to challenge you (yes, you!) to put your creative talents to the test. If you’ve been waiting for the chance to take on an new project or collaborate with other folks in the fandom, now’s the time!

This year instead of running our usual Big Bang, we decided to run a smaller sized event in the form of a Mini Bang - a lower word count goal and shorter run time, but just as much fun as a Big Bang! So come join us when the time comes!

What dates should you look out for?

  Writer Sign-ups: July 5th- 12th

  Full First Draft & Summary Due: August 30th

  Artist Sign-ups: September 6th-13th

  Final Fic & Art Due: October 18th

  Posting: October 30th

 I am SO GLAD they showed the interior of Rocky's ship in the Project Hail Mary movie!!!! I love that they added it even when it wasn't in the book, and I love how they did it. Though I have no confirmation on this, I'm assuming Andy Weir didn't put it in the book because he was probably like "I have no idea how to describe in words how this looks without making it visual."

That's my theory. If it's wrong, who cares, I love that they added it. It's so cool and such a fun treat to the fans.

A community project, by Mechanisms fans for Mechanisms fans, in the form of a collection of art made by us listeners to celebrate our beloved space pirates and their music Are you an artist? Are you a Mechanisms fan? Would you like to participate in a few months-long project with other fans, combining your interest with art, and possibly even getting the end result recognised by The People themselves if we're lucky? Join The Mechanisms Zine!!

As of now, the project is in a very very verrrrrry early stage, so I am mostly looking for people to help organise the zine, which means that mod applications are open :} They will remain open until the end of the week, and I am simultaneously opening artist applications too, which will remain open for a little longer and will have a longer response time Link to the mod applications Link to the artist applications Once again, please share this as much as possible, I need a maximum of people to see this!!
