Came to a point where I think I’m finished with Nier: Automata. Feel pretty weird about it. It’s so unrelentingly sad. Any moments of hope and joy are fleeting. But it’s so warm and rich as well. I’ll come back to it for sure.
Let me know what you make of it (and free download on my Bandcamp if that’s what you’re into) 😊 you might not even know you're looking but you'll know when you find them by Hazia on #SoundCloud
New song. Please listen, share, review. Thank you 😊

These lounge pants are the secret to any successes I’ve had lately. My all-day-erryday pants.

Bumping, because this took me three years (on and off), and I’m pretty fucking proud of it 😊 have a listen, share it around, let me know what you think! Thank you.

@_Zen_Bot_
BOT, HOOOOOOO!!!!! Meet ZenBot (@_Zen_Bot_), the newest member of the Twitterati :-) ZenBot is, depending how you look at it, either a profound, insightful, valuable public service, or just fucking stupid (but kind of funny?). If you're lost and looking for guidance, just tweet @_Zen_Bot_ with a tweet containing the words "give me some Zen" and a pathway to enlightenment you shall receive. Follow that path. See where it leads you. [DISCLAIMER: Obviously take it with a pinch of salt - it's up to you which words you live your life by, I'm taking no responsibility for that]
The mechanics of it are just that it runs around the clock, scraping tweets that mention the @_Zen_Bot_ account and that specifically request a response with a tweet containing the words "give me some Zen", checks if they have or haven't already had some advice on that day (because nobody needs more than a little bit, right?), and if they've not already got some it will post the tweeters back a randomly-generated life-enriching phrase from some bits and bobs. It will also post a more general “Thought for the day” at 8.00AM every day - a multipurpose general guideline for everybody’s enrichment.
There's not much of a "concept" behind it - really, it was just me fucking about on Python, practicing getting into a Twitter API and doing something that's a bit more interactive than I've done before. It's based on the sort of thing you see in Llamasoft games (e.g. Polybius on PS4, or 5-a-Day which was a fucking awesome iOS game that is sadly no longer available), where randomly-generated spiritual advice pops up every now and then, generally pertaining to ruminants or curry or cups of tea. I like the idea that you can just have a bot deliver things that are sometimes funny and sometimes (potentially) profound...like, a pot luck of stuff that's either meaningful (to me at least) or stupid bullshit. Or both, simultaneously. So, sometimes you'll be encouraged to "Eschew neoliberalism" or "Surround yourself with the sound of rainfall". And sometimes you'll be advised to "Learn more about burgers" or "Avoid dickheads". There's no denying, both types of advice are worth following - I try to do exactly these things allday erryday, and so far so good!. So, hit it up, see what you get.
SOME SNAGS: (1) It WILL only respond to tweets containing the phrase "give me some Zen" - it's not very smart in terms of recognising the multifarious ways in which humans request stuff. There's a philosophical argument that no matter how sophisticated the language processing or machine learning, things like "recognising a request" are just essentially non-mechanisable. And regardless of how much I look into it, me and my poky little Python script aren't going to change that. So don't feel slighted if you don't get a response, you probably just didn't ask for it in the proper fashion. (2) If your Twitter account is protected (as in, only followers can see your tweets and tweet you back), then it won't work - you'll be able to send ZenBot a tweet, and ZenBot will try to send you one back, but it won't work because ZenBot does not follow you (and therefore doesn't have the access rights to tweet you). I could have made ZenBot follow back anyone who tweets it, but that's just an account-blocking waiting to happen (inasmuch as a followback bot is a terrible idea which can be abused really easily). So, if your account is protected, no dice.
SOME T&CS: it does temporarily store some user data of anybody whose mentions it scrapes, just for the purposes of checking whether or not a user has already got some Zen in the recent past. So the latest mentions that @_Zen_Bot_ finds are stored until somebody else drops a new mention (NOTE: in periods of high volume, if there ever are any, not all latest mentions may be captured, because I'm limited in the amount of scrapes Twitter will let me do in a 15 minute period). And usernames of anybody who receives some Zen are stored temporarily so as to make sure the bot has a record of who has already got some Zen in the recent past (since I don't want people abusing it by constantly making requests). ANY AND ALL user information is wiped at regular (3-hour) intervals through the day. But if you're not happy with any part of this arrangement, then don't use the bot. ALSO, if it ever posts anything which you find offensive or upsetting in some way, please just get in touch and we can talk about it (email address below).

Raining
Yesterday was the first of the April showers. I'd taken Noah to the park: not interested in the swings, but we were doing climbing, going down the slides, chasing each other under the bridge. It's only round the corner from our house, but when I felt the first speck of rain I kind of knew what was coming. Within seconds it was completely torrential, heavy freezing rain that stung your skin. So I picked Noah up and ran as absolutely fast as I could back up the street, mock-screaming "IT'S RAAAAIIINNNIIINNNGG!!!" and joggling Noah up and down in my arms. And all the way, he's just laughing laughing laughing - drenched, cold, skin still stinging, but I'll never forget his face as I'm holding him tight, and the sound of him laughing his little head off. And the cuddles we had after a warm bath and a story, him cuddling my face and saying "so much, so much" (because he knows that I say this after "love you").
Noah crying in the cot. Maybe it's because it's the first night mama's been out for the whole day, maybe it's just because. I go up, pick him up, cuddles. He's tired, so he relaxes his head into my shoulder. And I'm talking to him: it's OK baba, you can do it. He's calm and resting. Time to go back in the cot then baba. I lower him in, put the duvet over him, make sure Rusty Bear is in reach. And I'm hanging over the edge of the cot, rubbing his back as he lies on his side looking at me. He reaches out. Grabs my other thumb and pulls it down beside him. Just to hold it. And he closes his eyes slowly, and then opens his fist and lets go. Love that boy SO much.
Green Man
I was out walking with Noah yesterday, took him to the park then up to the train station to pick up my tickets and see if we could catch a train. So we’re waiting at the lights to cross the main road, and I’m carrying him trying to teach him about colours - this is the RED MAN, and we wait here until we see the GREEN MAN, press the button and we’ll wait. So he does, we get the tickets, we look at pictures of trains on the wall in the station, then we go back home. Press the button. Wait for the GREEN MAN. Cross the road. And from there, there’s no more main roads, so I let him down to walk. He’s holding my hand and we’re walking along, a bit more quiet than usual. And right near the bottom of the hill, when we’re nearly home, I ask him what’s up and he doesn’t even look at me, just turns around to head back up the hill and says “more green man”, under his breath, then sets off walking! I wonder what he was thinking up to that point; did it just pop into his head, or was he mulling it over all the way down the hill and thinking “we’ll be back home in a minute, if I don’t do it now I’ll never do it” kind of thing? Little guy is SO determined, he would have walked all the way back up that hill all by himself, stamping along purposefully in his slightly-too-big overcoat and Thomas the Tank Engine wellies :-)
Made a vaporwave iPhone 6 background, steal it if you like? It's kind of in tribute to my customised Regalia on FFXV, which I did in these colours. I really liked the game's Roman-esque design influences (a bit of a departure for the series, nice change), and that and the colour scheme mean that the vaporwave connection was a no-brainer 😍
