I posted this on Twitter awhile ago (I might even make a full video on this) and I think it’s worth posting here The core difference between the Sonic movie and Detective Pikachu and why everyone hates Sonic but loves Pikachu is this: Detective Pikachu didn’t sacrifice the game design for the sake of realism

They didn’t try and make all of the Pokemon resemble ‘real’ animals, they all look like themselves; lifted straight out of the games.

And it would have been EASY for them to just include Pokemon that only look like animals, but they’re also including the Pokemon with weirder designs, like Mr. Mime above, and Golurk, which is literally a rock golem

Now compare this to Sonic…

Sonic went too far in trying to make him a ‘real’ animal, resulting in him looking like a hairy little gremlin. He looks like a human wearing a costume…

Like, look at how Detective Pikachu designed Charmander

This comes from the D. Pikachu line of Pokemon cards btw

Now, what if they tried to make him a “real” animal, he’d end up looking something like..

You see the problem?

You made him a real animal, but he only looks like an approximation of what he’s supposed to look like… that’s why people hate the Sonic movie design so much and why you see so many people trying to fix it online.

There’s this weird fear that a distinctly cartoony design can’t work when you’re trying to put a CG character next to real people and that it HAS to look realistic… and that’s simply not true. it’s been PROVEN not true!

Detective Pikachu gets this, their designs are a perfect middle-ground between realistic and cartoon

Things Dont Always Last, And That's Okay...

Relationships can be such a great thing in life but also such a horrible thing. Thought my ex would be in my life forever but turns out things change, and in this case it was feelings. I'm truly upset about the turn of things, but I also celebrate the times we shared and lessons learned. We both went through really tough times together and fought against our own demons to save each other, and that was an important memory of mine. Never forget the good times and the bad and cherish what you shared, because life's too short to be mad at what couldn't happen, just reflect and remember what did happen.

So today I was having really bad anxiety in the lunchroom and one of my friends walks over with a plastic fork, asking "Can I just stab someone with this?"

Me reacting in the sarcastic pessimistic way I do when peaked with anxiety, replied "Please, just STAB me, RIGHT in the artery here", while pointing to my fat artery. What happened next was unexpected.

They then wrap both their hands around my neck and give me a playful choke, just enough to feel my pulse prominently and restrict my breathing a bit. Now this obviously didn't hurt me, but it did however give me a euphoric and high feeling. Like, my eyes just rolled back and I just let it happen. I really can't explain exactly how I felt, only that I became weak to it and felt a sharp spike of euphoria. I felt my pulse and it distracted me from my anxiety for that brief moment.

I also will mention that I do not have feelings for this person, as I'm already committed to my boyfriend and don't want anyone else, but I guess as I was feeling kinda depressed and lost mentally, I craved pain. And with the choking, it kinda caused that craving to be satisfied and give me that high? No idea, but when they let go of my neck, I just kinda wanted them to keep going, but clearly that wouldn't happen.

So yeah, THAT happened. I guess I can confirm this is a kink for me, since I enjoyed that a little too much. Well, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
