KEEPING QUIET WAS ALL THAT HE COULD DO, it was best to just let her push whatever excuse that they were going to run with. even if some would assume that the large carnivore should be the one to speak up, it wasn’t the case – had he been the one to speak up, the officer would have just thought that he was threatening him, as well as lying through his teeth to make sure that he didn’t get in trouble for getting too close to small prey. listening to the way that haru made up excuses, you would think that she was doing this every day. he didn’t often like to be out with her in public for that exact reason, since they would always be stared down and judged heavily for so much as walking side by side.
crouching down behind her, it was best to put himself on her level — not that it allowed for him to hide at all, it would have been as useful as trying to hide behind a street lamp. he just knew that it wasn’t going to be any better off if he was looming over both the herbivore and the smaller carnivore that was the police officer. as harmless as she may have known that he was towards her, there was really no convincing the other of that, he would just have to hope that his girlfriend could appease him and allow for them to be free from the headache of the current situation. after all of this, he was more than ready to go back to his apartment near the back alley and escape the embarrassment of being treated like a danger.
❝ yeah, let’s go home. ❞ quick to agree with her statement, he finally stood himself back up to his full height. he was more than happy to escape the stares they were still getting after being harassed like that by the police. they all probably expected something awful to happen, which was not the case – as lawless as the black market was, agata full well knew that without the rest of the gang, he had no reason to act criminal. it would only cause the rabbit unneeded stress. things out here were much easier to deal with if he allowed himself to be a mere victim.
Haru already knew that dating him was always going to have its downsides and always being looked at with fear and anxiety. It wasn’t as if carnivore and herbivore relationships were looked at in positive lights, but it was even harder on them given the massive size difference between them. Perhaps if she was slightly larger they wouldn’t always catch the eyes of all the worried passerby's who assumed that she was in danger. There were dangers of dating a carnivore and that was something she already knew without anyone telling her otherwise, but still she was willing to keep stay with him because of her feelings for him.
It must be rather difficult to deal with the negative way they always looked at him and even if he didn’t say it out loud, she knew it was rather tiring to have to step around so carefully when they were in public. She hated that it had to be that way, but given how the world was now there was no sense in hoping it would suddenly change simply because of them now dating. Perhaps one day in the future they could go out without the judgmental gazes of those who didn’t understand their relationship.
“I understand where they’re coming from, but it’s frustrating to deal with them try and tell me otherwise.” The conversation with the officer took far longer simply because he was convinced that he couldn’t believe her story. He even went so far as to shoot back a threatening gaze to Agata who was hidden behind her the entire time. Ears remained pointed on the top of her head as their size grew slightly, a sign of her obvious annoyance with not being trusted. Her grip on his hand tightened as she walked beside him. “If the rabbit is saying there’s no problem they should be more willing to believe me instead of keeping us there even longer for some stupid investigation that was completely unnecessary.”
