I think one of the things that makes me angriest about the whole āgender neutral language to describe female bodiesā thing is that thereās just no way to convey to male-bodied people exactly how humiliating and dehumanizing it is. There is zero way that I can explain to any man exactly how terrible it feels to be referred to by parts of my (female) reproductive system. Like, I could call a man a āpenis-haverā and maybe that gets *close* to conveying to him what I feel when I am called a āvagina-haver,ā but itās actually just not the same because heās spent his entire life laughing at dick jokes and seeing dicks drawn on every available surface and having his penis celebrated by all of society, and Iāve been taught to be ashamed of the fact that I have a vagina since before I even really understood my own anatomy. I could call him an āejaculatorā and maybe that might make him understand *part* of what I feel when I am called a āmenstruator,ā except that male ejaculation isāagaināseen as perfectly normal and is often discussed and joked about in a positive manner, and menstruation is always regarded as shameful and disgusting, something embarrassing, something to hide.
And it goes on. āUterus-bearer?ā Whatās the male equivalent there? There really isnāt one, but okay, sure, letās just pick something and say: ātestes-bearer,ā maybe? No man has ever been reduced to or exploited for his testes in the way women are reduced to and exploited for our uteruses every single day. No manās reproductive system has ever been stigmatized and regulated and abused the way womenās have been for thousands of years. Even if āgender-neutralā language for male bodies WAS used in the same way it is for female bodies (which it almost never is, and letās be honest, probably never will be on a regular basis), it wouldnāt have the same impact on the people it was used to refer to because there just isnāt the same amount of shame and stigma surrounding the male body as the female. No man has ever been ashamed of being male in the same way women are taught to be ashamed of being female.
